New Dunlop Sport Maxx from dealer on sale
I didn't really want to go with this tire but dealer has a sale going and I'm leaving on a trip shortly and really need new tires. I can get 4 tires 20"(315/35 rear, 275/40 front) for $1370.00 plus tax. That's mounted and balanced out the door price. Seems very reasonable to me compared to other places I've looked. The car is not driven in snow or ice conditions and is basically a grocery getter. The car has 30K miles and still has the original rear Sport Maxx tires with about 2/32" tread left. Fronts were gone at 20K and I stuck a couple of used ones on until the rears needed replacing so I could do them all at once. Anybody have any thoughts on this deal?

That is cheap. TireRack.com has each tire @ $461/$480. Good deal for Dunlops.

gooood deal!

My experience with Dunlop Sport Maxx's on a 2008 BMW 535i with the Sport Package was that these tires became quite noisy after about 12,000 miles. By noisy, I mean sort of like the "whoop, whoop, whoop" that Pirellis develop after a few thousand miles.
My new X5 has Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sports, so time will tell what they turn out to sound like as they age. Good price in the Dunlops though. |
From what I remember, on Tire Rack the tires are about 1900 for 4. THats before shipping and installation. If my dealer offered that I would probably take it. I went with Conti DWS instead.

Like others said, its a great deal vs. the prices on tire rack and discount tires. I'm amazed you were able to get so many miles out of the tires in the first place!

great deal but still tire itself is crap

That's a Steal for runflats, especially from the dealer!
I do agree that there are better tires out there! |
Thanks for the feedback. Got the tires put on today and wife says it's like a different car. I haven't driven it yet but will put about 1200 to 1500 miles on it next week so I'm looking forward to see how they feel. I bought this car with 12K miles on it so I've never really felt what new tires would feel like. I agree there are better tires out there for the kind of driving we do, but at this price and the low mileage we put on this car (9K per year) I felt I'd give them another shot. Still amazed that the dealer gave me such a good deal compared to other places I priced tires. They also cleaned the inside of the wheels, did a vehicle condition report and washed the car.
