I'm so pissed. Got screwed on EBay on something for my X5

I ordered a Valentine V1 from someone who claimed to selling a new one. Paypal the guy almost $400 bucks. I waited a week, asked if he shipped it. No answer. Asked 3 more times, nothing. Opened a Paypal "investigation". Escalated it to a claim today. I've bought probably 1000 things on EBay. This is the first time I get screwed. Hopefully Paypal gets my money. Anyone have any similar experiences ?

same thing happened to me for a DireTV HD tivo a couple years ago. Sucks. Never got a cent back from Paypal. Scammer did the same thing to 20-30 people at the same time from my recollection. The price has got to be worth the risk to me. When you can buy a new one for $399, why bother with a used one on ebay?

If you paid with credit card, then you can claim from CC company, no?

Yup, if Paypal doesn't fix soon, just have your CC do a chargeback.

On the other hand, one time I bought something and didn't hear anything for 3 weeks... filed a dispute and everything, and then the guy finally gets back to me that he'd had a death in the family, apologized, and refunded everything. Rare I know, but it does happen.

what people will also do is ship and empty box or something along those lines so if you dispute it he will say it was sent and confirm it so paypal will not refund the money. Some people when buying big tickets items will ask the ups or fedex person to stay there while they open the item and if nothing in there they delivery guy will take back.

Be careful lots of scammers out there. I always look at the sellers history before buying.

Why buy a V1 off of eBay? Call Valentine directly and ask for a refurb, you get a discount, same Warrenty and the support of valentine. The one you purchased was either stolen or a fake or just a straight scam... Only buy high end radar detectors from authorized deals since there are tons of fakes/replicas out there.

Anyone who funds paypal with ANYTHING other than a credit card is being very foolish. It is as bad as sending cash in a paper bag!

Paypal is useless, their "investigations" are scams.... NEVER rely on paypal for any protections.

I fund paypal with AMEX, and run 100-150k a year on the one car (business & personal)...I call, they handle. Never an issue, ever.

I hate paypal. Why bother adding a middleman? I can do an Email Money Transfer for $1.50 and it's direct and immediate or Paypal for 2.9% + 30c and ait 5-7 business days to transfer to my bank account. It doesn't sound like much except when it eats $50 from my $1700 transaction! But yeah... getting off topic.

I hope you get your money back. I've had a few bad transactions on ebay as well. I'm well into 400 transactions though and am pretty happy with only 2-3 bad transactions.

I rarely buy anything over 20-50 bucks. We shall see
