2008 X5 Warranty

So here goes, I am looking towards a decision in the next year as to options. I am looking at purchasing the extended warranty for an added level of protection/peace of mind. I understand that there is both room for negotiating costs at the Dealership but wanted to get some folks feedback that have pursued this option recently. This is and always has been a topic in the past but haven't seen one posted lately and thought I'd bring it back.

GG-

Contact board sponsors for quotes when you are ready. Your local dealer will probably jerk you around. Skip the maintenance plan, find yourself a good indy.

Remember you need to do it by 45 months or 45k miles.

Maintenance plan is different from Extended warranty. If you plan on keeping your car for a while, i'd say get both of them. Based on E70's reliability, it will be worth it when issues appear on your SAV.

Why?

At best, it is a break even prospect, unless you actually believe (or worse pay) the silly prices dealers quote to scare people into the maintenance plans....

$2300 maintenance, $4800 warranty

Local Stealership wouldn't give me the time of day and the quote given above came 4 states away. I'm thinking that it doesn't matter where you buy but I was told that it didn't need to be done at 45k miles.

I would like to keep it for as long as I can. The only issues I've ever had was the fuel pump. Hope I'm not jinxing myself!! :D But with my luck I skip out on both warranties and everything goes wrong!!

$4800 warranty for 2 extra years? PASSSSSSSSS. Even at $2k I'd be reluctant to (though things get pricey if a lot starts to go wrong in years 5 & 6).

Yep!! Maybe this would be a good time to consider trading my X in on a newer one . . . :dunno:

FYI

Make sure you confirm the 45/50k thing in writing.

MSRP on a PLATINUM 6/100k is $4570.

I'd keep shopping.

Do you have enough info to decide on the maintenance?

anyone happen to have experience with warrantydirect.com and know what the equivalent to the platinum coverage is? I think their packages run anywhere between $2.7-4k, but I think they also offer 3 years instead of 2. It's just really hard to gauge what is covered - I mean things like adaptive drive, etc. aren't specifically named since it's a general contract for all vehicles.
