I ordered the car and it was delivered 12/10. I have the smartphone intergation option. Shouldnt the cradle at least charge the phone. I am not expecting the BMW Connect to work. I missed it by that much.

I wish i had this on my 2003 M5. It is way more seamless then the Intravee that i am using which was great until i saw this.

I've been holding off on getting an iPhone 4 (I have a 3gs) solely because I didn't want to wait for, then pay for, the BMW iPhone 4 adapter since I have a 3g adapter.

Here's my proposed fix: an extension cable for the iPhone with the existing iPhone 3g adapter (Link to Amazon).

I've had this in my X5d for a week, and it charges, the iPod works through the iDrive, and the antenna-through-the-shark-fin works, too. (Only tried on my 3GS phone, but it's the same cable for both versions....).

Next is to try it with an iPhone 4, though I have no doubt it'll work.

Additional benefits:

• the phone can be outside the console, so I don't leave it in the car. Which I do.
• the phone is available for button pushing outside the console (mute, dialing, etc).
• theoretically, others in the car could text, use the phone, etc, while still charging and using the shark fin antenna. I'd never text and drive. :wow:

Well, you could go that route or you could do what I previously described. I "dremmeled" (ground down) my 3G adapter so it fit my iPhone 4. It works perfectly with the iPhone 4. I hardly use the adapter/cradle for the iPhone 4 though -- AT&T service has got so much better that I don't need it as much as first got it 3.5 years ago.

Can't you just plug an Apple Dock to USB connector into the USB port in the centre console? (unless you're using it for a second iPod)

My understanding is that there is no antenna connector in the iPhone dock cable, but an inductive antenna in the actual snap-in dock - which means that your iPhone can only use the shark fin if it's physically laying on top of the snap in connector.

I was very interested in this until I saw V1's ESP and Escort "LIVE". I would consider getting my iPad in the mix if we could just get text to voice for our email (and maybe Twitter) using the BMW apps.

I saw a video about doing text-to-voice email by BT with a BMW but it was with the Blackberry not the iPhone 4/4S.
