2 questions

1) I am looking at buying an 08 X5 and cant decide if I want or need the 4.8 or the 3.0 or the D. Any impressions from owner of these vehicles? For some background, I have an E53 4.8 and love it but dont use the power it has, nor do I pull anything,,,,.

2) What kind of mileage do the 3 different motors are owners seeing?

4.8 ?
3.0 ?
3.0D ?

I currently average 19.5 in my 06, never had a problem with it! Great car, I have a family member that has been nagging me to buy it from me, I just turned 100,800 miles and he will give me $20,000 for it. I think that sounds about right,,,,?

Thanks.

on my 2008 3.0, I get about 17 MPG locally, and about 22 MPG on highway. In my personal opinion, it has surprising amount of power/torque, and likely more reliable in the long run.

Diesel, 35d was available to the American market in 2009.

I had a 2007 3.0si, and while it was not slow, I always felt the E70 was too heavy for an inline 6 3.0 motor. The new 35i turbo is awesome though!

I owned a couple of the 3.0. Coming from the 4.8 I think you will be disappointed if you went to the 3.0. The 3.0 was fine and is a great engine, but nothing like the 4.8 or the newer 35i (which rocks).

Have the 3.0si. Wishing I had the 35i. Actually I wished that even before I bought the 3.0. Too bad the 35i came out 3 years too late. Day-to-day driving though the 3.0 is perfectly capable.

Cool, thanks for the replies. If you had the option to move up to the X35, would you do that over the 4.8?

I LOVE the power of my 4.8 but hate the MPG so I would take the D personally if I could do it all over again

Well first off hats off to you for achieving nearly 20mpg in a 4.8:thumbup: That is quite impressive to a lead-footed a-hole like myself.

Why 2008? Given power is not important maybe a 2009 diesel is your best option? Good gas mileage and nice torque.

Thanks, I was looking at an 08 that had what I liked, but, if people like the D, I think that I may look for one of these. What type of mileage do they get?

D mileage

On my first weekend of ownership, I got 20.5 city, 27 highway. On my drive to work this AM (no highway/lots of stops and starts) I got 23.1.

Should only get better as it breaks in!
