Hi E70 owners,
I am going to check out a 2008 X5 3.0si later this evening, thought would ask the opinions here if the price and specs are ok.

2008 BMW X5 3.0si for sale in Warwick - 5UXFE43578L000922 – Balise Chevrolet of Warwick

I know the mileage seems a bit high but would be OK for me and plus the teething issues would be resolved by now.

Be VERY careful. Even minor issues- a leaking gasket here or a hose there- can add up to a $2-3k bill..let alone any major repairs that were never diclosed when the guy traded it in to the chevy dealer...then they catch it, realize they cannot trade it to a BMW dealer and try and dump it prior to sending it to auction.

You MUST get a PPI from someone OTHER than that dealership

At 70K miles you are buying right in the wheelhouse of when repaiirs will start to be needed---CV Boots, Valves, etc.

Agree with ard & BGM...
PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection, preferably done by a knowledgeable BMW oriented Indie shop.

The Dlr has zero interest in your well being, and when that car rolls out of his drive, he rubs his hands and says Goodfookin Luck.

Imo, it has a lot of miles for 3 yrs old, and no clue on price, but it seems highish...

Just because a BMW is at a Chevy dealer doesn't automatically mean run away. Who knows, maybe the previous owner just really wanted a Corvette!

That said, I have seen some CPOed 07s for only a few grand more. Try to get a warranty, these cars have a lot of electronics that an average indie shop may not be able to sort (or so I've been told by the owner of the indie shop I go to), necessitating a $$$$ trip to the dealer.

Original owner traded in the X5 for a new Tahoe - i called the BMW dealership down the road and pulled all service records from day of delivery. Vehicle was maintained very well under the BMW service and I have everything that was done on it. The car is very clean, and drives like new. So eschantra is right on the point, not all deals from a Chevy dealer could be bad... I am now negotiating price and will see where we go from here.

I would consider getting a CPO one. From my CPO purchases in the past, they have paid for themselves and often times the CPO ones are similarly priced as the non CPO ones. It is true, once you hit 70k, the maintenance issues start mounting quickly.

Also, I forgot to mention that just because it's CPO doesn't mean they looked at the car carefully(some dealers are really bad about this). I would ask for their CPO checklist and check over as many items as possible. I would also bring a mechanic to have the car looked over. The ideal situation is to have a little factory warranty left so you have some time to find more problems. That's what I did with my X5 and they made over 7k in repairs in 6 months because I wanted everything right before I was on the extended warranty.

^^ Agree, but the ONLY value in the CPO is *THE* extended warranty.

OP, you can buy a BMW backed warranty (please do not buy the other crap) from BMW for 35-4000 that gives you the same as CPO coverage- called the BMW Gold Plan.

PS On who is "right" and "wrong" BOTH eschantra and I are correct: you should be careful...AND not all are dogs...and I'll bet you are convinced from the BMW dealer you don't need a PPI. [Shrug]
