I love the back up cameras. I have severe back problems and can see most of everything when backing up, but at times it's hard for me to see the lower portion behind the car when backing up.

The back up camera was a great thought and great design, and I just see them improving over the years (fish-eye lens, etc...).

I love cameras too.

Just don't think they need to be mandatory.... would I pay for one? Not as a stand alone option.

I got an Idea: let's eliminate all laws. That way we can all do
exactly what we want to do. I've never lived in total chaos.

Are you just peeved, or serious?

Not having mandatory back up cameras equates to "total chaos"?

I agree, that is fundamentally my disagreement, that drivers will come to rely on them.

NHTSA says they can save about 100 lives per year. DoT values a life at $6 million according to Wiki. Given those figures, the cost of implementing cameras ($1.9 to $2.7 billion) is about three to four times the hurdle rate, just considering fatalities. That means it shouldn't pass.

Neither one. I was just being facetious about people
worrying about government intrusion into our lives.
It's a backup camera, thats all it is.

How about we just eliminate the ones where the costs outweigh the benefits?

Then we could have prosperity and order at the same time.
