So, you did get mpg slightly below official number due to higher speed. Same happens with my 35d: lose 1-2mpgs when averaging 70mph. Came from family camp trip today (Lake Roosevelt, WA). Did only 500 miles on the tank this time. But that was due to speed (75-80 most of the way), up and down terrain (up mt pass, then several canyons), strong side and head winds, heavy cooler and baggage(tent, topperware, food, cots, chairs) inside, and most of all - 2 sleeping cots and bicycle on the roof. I am sure that didn't help aerodynamics of it all. The self adjusting suspension is awesome. The rear did not sag at all. We are talking about only approx 300 lbs of stuff in addition to 2 adults and kids, but I seen pickups sag under similar loads. Handling of the loaded vehicle was not affected at all, or so it seemed. The only change noticeable was a slightly softer ride over bumps, but no wobbling. The many turns on winding roads were conquered with ease and confidence). Being out of the city gives new appreciation for adaptive lights - very well tuned; shine exactly where vehicle will be during the turn. Lots of deer in that area - had me worried coming back to camp site at midnight after laser show. Saw a few on the side of the road. Prayed so none of them decides to jump across the rural hwy in front of me going 70mph.. Had to use the filler cup adaptor thingy for the first time. All of the diesel pumps in the rural area have the large nozzles. Had no choice but to take the cooler and other stuff out to get to the adaptor. It worked fine, although I did not fill the full tank, so don't know if the pump would automatically shut off. |
Here's my first fill up on a Seattle to LA trip (2012 X35D)

You will probably do 600 though. You might make it over the Shasta pass. I didn't want to risk getting stranded with wife and 2 kids in the middle of the night, so filled up before entering Cali. |
Lies, lies, lies - unless you lot all drive like Nanas! My 40d (MWAHAHAAAAA 8 speed ) with wife, 3 kids and bags did a recent trip ( av speed 71.5 mph ) yielded 530 miles to the tank. Mind you the car is yet to hit 4k miles, and I may have hit 112 overtaking a few times.....
