Tools included in trunk?

1 Attachment(s)
I recently got a used 2012 X5 and was curious if the tools in my trunk are all that it's suppose to come with. There appears to be openings for a couple other items. I wasn't sure if they are related to the spare tire which is missing or do I need to ask the dealer.

Thanks

The last (bottom in this picture) slot should be for the red T handle that releases the electronic shifter and parking brake (or it was on my 2008) in the event of a dead battery and needing to tow the vehicle....I found it humorous that it was in the back where it was inaccessible if the battery was dead as you couldn’t open the tailgates (or even the glove box to get at the manual to figure out how to put the SAV onto a flatbed) and kept mine in the driver’s door pocket for emergency. Perhaps the system has changed in 2012’s and the tool is no longer needed.

You seem to be missing the red plastic tool for unlocking the transmission.

You would have to do this:
1. Unlock driver's door using valet key
2. Crawl into cargo area
3. Remove cargo cover
4. Pull the cord to manually open the tailgate
5. Get the tool, release park brake.

Both of you are missing a wheel lock key (goes in the remaining spot). Understandable if you don't have wheel locks, but vital if you do.

Red T handle is no longer included on 2012 models. There is no manual release from 2012 on.

My 2012 X5d came with it when I picked it up last October.

Interesting. My March 2012 build did not. I posed the same question when I noticed the tool was missing and several people mentioned that in 2012 they stopped including the orange T and that the override no longer exists. Some people have even posted stories about trouble with towing due to the lack of a manual override anymore.

I think the diesel and the gas versions have different releases (ie you can get a 2013 gas now, but the 2012 diesel is the latest model). That might be why

My March 35i was a 2012
