But in all seriousness, if you ask BMW, they are going to say tires must be bought from them. But if you don't ask and don't tell, I (Stressing "I" because I don't know if they take serial numbers or something down) buy the tires through tirerack.com and slap them on. It is going to be cheaper than dealer almost 100%. Then in the future if you get a nail or flat, just bring it in and utilize the warranty.

Just my $.02.

I have the BMW Tire Protection---that's incorrect you do not have to buy the tires from a dealer. They just have to be OEM (Dunlop Sport Maxx or Bridgestone Duelers) or any other name brand tire such as Michelin, Continental (I would call the warranty company to make sure on anything other than OEM).

O.P.--why not just go to Discount Tire ? They are about the same price as Tire Rack since with TR you still have to pay shipping and for someone to install them. Discount doesn't show the Bridgestone's on their site but I checked they just order them.

My dealer is running a buy 3 get 1 free. I'm happy with the original Bridgestone Dueler RFTs, got 30k out of them, so pulled the trigger and put some new shoes on her yesterday while in for service.

So, how did the price compare to tirerack? (Assuming you pay $160 to mount, balance and install tires shipped from tirerack...)

Just so you know, I am pretty sure they are giving $70 off on 4 tires.....

$160? Yikes. ~ $25/tire around here, and that was for my Vette.

Yeah, I usually get Hunter Road Force balancing. $25 is prolly closer for a regular mount/balance

GSP9700 is the top of the line Hunter balancing machine. $25 for that is great deal.

Just over $1000, then mount/balance/install, ~$1200 total.

Tire Rack is probably a cheaper option, they usually are, but it was done all in the same day.

Going from 4mm to brand new shoes is one he!! of a difference. Like getting my glasses prescription updated.

When you're paying close to $2k for a set of new tires, they don't rape you for mounting/balancing/hunter alignment etc.

Screw the dealer. Go with Tirerack. At least that's what I am doing. Dropped off my car today to replace break fluid and asked them for front tire estimate, they charge over $100 more than tirerack per tire. I said no thanks so I will order Michelins from tirerack.
