The OP should NOT get rid of a well functioning SRT8 to get into an X5 that is already having issues. RUN, don't walk to return the X5!
That being said, I have driven a few Jeep SRT8s - nice motor, great looks, but that's about it. The Jeep's interior is abyssmal, and the 5 speed tranny is atrocious. I hsve driven them, the tranny bangs and clanks tot he point it drove me CRAZY - zero refinement. Seriously, I would much much MUCH rather have an XDRIVE 35I or 35D. The SRT8 has more power than them, but I wouldn't sacrifice the X5's refinement only to get the Jeep's motor. This is typical American muscle car technique - throw a big motor in a mediocre chassis. The Jeep is simply not in the same class as a similarly powered X5. An E70 M Sport 5.0 has a much more refined (overall) drive train and the X5's handling is in an entirely different league. And, once you add Adaptive Drive to the X5, the X5's handling becomes even that much more beyond the cumbersome Jeep. And, I realize the SRT8 is significantly less money than an X5. But, the responders here were trying to say the Jeep was better than an X5 - crazy talk I say! |
good points, sarends...
but i think, what we are saying is, that this particular specimen of X5 is worse that the specimen of the SRT8 that the OP had... just because i like bimmers and already on 5th or 6th bimmer and i am not looking for anything else, does not mean that i am total fanatic of the brand - there are bad apples, and one needs to walk off... |
Totally agree.

Update: passed on the deal and started looking for some other 2011's on the same color that was certified. Everything was in the mid 40's and most were not even certified. The dealer (Motorwerks of Barrington) called me about a week after getting my Jeep back and said the problematic X5 was now fixed and available for sale. They said I could take it for a weekend and see if I still want it. So after taking them up on the offer with absolutely no issues I purchased it for an extra 1k off (due to my troubles). I ended up get it for $38k, its certified with 41k miles and has navigation, convenience pkg, cold weather, technology, pano roof, etc. It's an early 2011 without the com box but I've already ordered one from a local BMW coder so it's on the way.

that is good - you have the warranty and just make sure, you sell the car about 6 months/6-10K miles before warranty runs out, to maximize your resale value...
congratulations on the car!!! make sure you keep this website in your bookmarks - sometimes we know more than the dealer does!!! |
