e70 low profile rails

Great write-up and pics. Does anyone know if the standard bmw crossbars will neatly affix to the low profile rails? Or, do the lows have their own?

You will need new crossbars, they are a whole different clamping design/mechanism. If you go with thule aeroblade's make sure to get 2 x 7603 and not the other length thule recommends on their site, the 7604 is too wide for the front.

Adamt, thanks for posting the DIY, this was one of my first mods and its one of those subtle things that really changes the look of the truck. Your DIY made it quick (3hrs) and painless.

Also just a note for others wanting to do this, dont buy them off ebay or amazon. They seem to be going for a premium, most sets I have seen on there are around $800+. Got the shadowline's for $280 a rail off ecs (51137256769, 51137256770). Even cheaper for the aluminum ones (51138036775, 51138036776)

The eBay roof rails have come down in price to $376 shipped. Anyone have any experience with these? How's the fit and finish compared to OEM?

Silver Roof Top Mounted Rack Rails Bar for BMW x5 E70 2008 2013 | eBay

The OEM pieces can be had for about $451 plus shipping here.

Those are cool looking. Do they come in black?

No, I've only been able to find the silver/aluminum version on eBay for that price.

Thanks for this. Used it to replace the moldings(black paint faded away) under the rails.

Just put on my roof stick without taking off the headliner! Not so hard and long job! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c30e8d3bb5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2b943510ea.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...af2c5180b7.jpg

You took it "off"...

you didnt take it "out"

Compared with the first post, how was your method different? My guess is that you just bent the edges down??

Would be helpful....

How long was it?

I put on those roof sticks :D longest part was to take off interior for the first time. Second was ok. As I have rear climate I had to take off whole middle interior between doors. May be for non rear climate cars has the same way to take off!
Yes, I bent down edges :)
