My 08 4.8 is in for this very problem. They want to charge me $400cdn to reprogram it but aren't certain if that is the problem. If the reprogramming doesn't work, they said I will get a new tranny covered under CPO so I am praying that the programming won't work.

Wait, if there is a defect- the car isnt doing something correctly- the CPO should cover it...programmming, parts, new tranny, whatever.

But lemme guess: all this is verbal, so nothing you can use to argue the point, right?

not quite. cpo will cover the part itself but not the electrical side of things. If the part is defective, all will be covered. If its just programming, then I am SOL. I asked how the programming can go off all of a sudden and their reply was just like how a computer slows down over time, the electronics in this car also do too. What a POS.

Of course you know this is nonsense, right? They dont get away with this when an engineer is sitting at the desk..or an engineer who has READ and UNDERSTOOD the terms of the CPO document. The CPO doesnt exclude 'electrical related side of things'...it lists PARTS and SYSTEMS and what was the CAUSAL event. If a transmission isnt shifting properly demand they fix it. it is "covered"- if a SW patch is needed, that is covered. The concept that cars software 'slow down over time' is maybe believable to liberal arts majors, but unsupported by any technical literature. if the programming has 'slipped' you have a defective DME (I believe the DME is covered by CPO). Most likely is that BMW has rolled a patch to address driveability issues and they want to screw you a bit. Set up an appointment, tell them you refuse the SW and want the problem fixed. Get everything in writing on the repair order- ideally their refusal to repair until you pay for SW. Then go to BMWNA.

my vehicle is currently under investigation by bmwna and they aren't being much hhelp at the moment. I will disclose more information once I have options laid out. This car has been a lemon since day one and has been in the shop for ten visits in a year and a half varying from minor issues to very big problems. I have put a total of 11,000kms on it only

This is gonna be my last BMW. The quality has gotten worse. We are paying a premium for these vehicles. The interior in my 09 X5 4.8 sucks. Makes noise. My 2000 X5 4.4 was quiet inside even after 150,000. I wish I would have keeped my 2000 and drove it to the end.

People really need to learn how to say NO when you're being fed a line of shit from the dealer. Just stand there and say that's not acceptable until they realize you aren't going away. That's really all they want is for you to go away, so don't do it.

I did say no. Kept trying to help them realize how stupid and non logical it was for the to charge for a reprogramming when the CPO states very clearly all transmission components.

anyway, after bmwna revised my car, they took the whole bill for the reprogramming but I want more than that because this car almost costed my family and me our lives twice!

I am picking up my new car next week. Done with bmws for a lifetime. First and last. Such a shame! I will start a thread soon sharing my experience with the fellow community and bmws response to my endless problems and near death situations.
