HDC Always on

I noticed my HDC is always on, always green. Doesn't turn off, after a stop at a light I let go off the brakes and the car jumps every time, feels like a kick. I thought it would be all 4 wheels kicking in, this has to be an issue with HDC. Anybody had this issue?

Hey, another Chicagoan, NICE! I do not believe HDC should be on. It is not on mine anyway (07 4.8i). That kick is possibly he HDC or the usual tranny issues most of our cars have in the pre-lci world. There are multiple threads on it, take a look and see if the symptoms match. That braking kick is absolutely one of them. Another is when you accelerate from 2nd to 3rd there can be another kick.

For the work order:

"Hill Descent Control appears to stay engaged. Green indicator remains on, does not respond to button press to disengage. At restart HDC still engaged. Check for normal operation, report all codes and diagnostic test plan results in writing"

how to check normal operations/get all codes so I could paste them on here?

Does HDC engage when going down a hill slowly?

can't tell you that, don't have hills where I live. Above the button the light is always on tho. When coming to a complete stop and then after releasing the break you get a kick in the wheels, feeling underneath the car throughout the suspension before applying accelerator. I had it it off few times when started the car, then the car doesn't kick, but most of the time the light is green "on" and it kicks after complete stops.

We don't have any hills here either, but there are some on ramps/fly overs that work. If you can find a safe place to slow to below 5mph on a downhill ramp/ parking garage ramp....anything that gravity will work and let off the gas to see if HDC kicks in ABS system then you can tell if it's engaged......

Went to a place, said it needs reprogramming, or transmission is broken. He will take it in next week, update then!

Just got the car back. Fan Electronics Box Activation, Fuel Tank Ventilation System micro leak, programming fixed it, but the green light above HDC button is still on. The kick stopped throughout, as of 15 mile test drive, will see in couple days. Is the light suppose to be on then?
