I know for a fact it has saved me, or my driver, at least five times from tickets at super high speeds. I love the freedom from the radar detectors too.

I use Waze too, and also have two V1s that i use outside of Virginia... there are however, so many places that simply do not have enough Wazers to report anything... many times i drive and i am the only wazer on the road... so, the Waze would not help me in this case - but i do like the Waze for the traffic info and the cop info... still, not a complete detector replacement... situational awareness - the more tools you have, better you are covered...

I completely agree. Waze is a nice add-on and not a complete radar replacement.

Escort Live is the same concept as Waze. Its a special cord that plugs into your escort detector and utilizes an app on your phone. If somebody down the road has the same setup and detects a Ka band, your app on your phone in conjunction with your detector will tell you to proceed with caution. Its like Waze but its automatically reported for you and also tells you if the LEO was using Ka or Laser. I'll be testing this setup soon as I get my "Live" cable and probably do a write up in a separate post.

Toneaero,

A radar detector fits perfectly above the rearview mirror. I have mine on the driver's side. Even one with rear radar, like the V1, has an unobstructed view out the rear.

You have a picture of your setup?

These are old pics from E34 (V1 next to mirror) and E39 (V1 is in the far right top corner). between the two I prefer the top right corner, it is probably still at an optimal position and outside of the driver's reach, which does not alert a "vigilant" cop as much - cops usually look for a detector within the right hand reach... while it is only illegal in VA and DC, cops in many places do not like dealing with the detectors thus they single out the detector users as more prone to speeding... :dunno:

my detector is hardwired to the rearview mirror. i have been pulled over on numerous occasions in cali for non speeding offenses. i have never removed the detector from the windshield and not one of the cops i had to deal with said a word about it.

in VA they will issue you a citation in addition to whatever else you did... in DC they will take the detector away...
