Hardwire radar detector

Im interested in hardwiring my radar detector. I was thinking about powering it from the mirror and using a blendmount or something similar in mounting my detector. BTW, be careful when you're removing the plastic housing around the mirror mount as the plastic tabs are easily broken.

Does anybody know which one of these wires I should tap into for power and ground?

This is the wiretap im going to be using:

Brown is usually ground. Best way to tell is get a volt meter and look for a switched circuit.

Pics on page 5 may help.

this is from E53 - if you have an overhead garage opener, this is truly plug-n-play, no splicing required... or, if there is anything else that is using these types of connectors, you can still plug-n-play... could be useful in E70 too...

I used to have my V1 hardwired but, if you have the V1, I have found the SAVVY (which plugs into the OBD port) to be the better option.

very small green/yellow striped wire. Same as the E60.

Thanks for all the links.

I called BlendMount and they didn't have one that would fit this mirror. They are estimating a 4 month waiting period till they can R&D one.

Here is an example of a blendmount on mirrors that work:

Anybody have recommendations to other vendors that have E70 compatible mounts? Im sick of the suction cups.

No to be a jackhole, but I have dispensed with radar detectors altogether and swear by my WAZE app. It's totally free too. I have been using the app for nearly two years now and have traveled nearly 100k miles without any tickets. I know for a fact it has saved me, or my driver, at least five times from tickets at super high speeds. I love the freedom from the radar detectors too.

I use Waze too. I wouldn't replace a radar detector with it though. Since its dependent on users to actually flag a LEO, it may not always be accurate. Flagging a LEO on the app doesn't mean that the LEO will be in the same exact spot when you're about to pass the flagged mark. Its also based on how active users are actively reporting too.

Remember that waze is a NAVIGATION app. Its titled "outsmarting traffic, together".
