Does the Parameter Info work for you guys?

mart_dev 11-17-2014 09:28 AM

Parameters works fine for me. I use the BT dongle (2008 E70 3.0d). I have also coded all the usual features using BMWhat (digital speedo, angel eyes on bright with headlights on, front fogs on with high beams, folding/unfolding mirrors on fob, windows and roof open and close on fob). And now with being able to register battery as well as change battery type (AGM or wet cell) and carry out detailed service reset it is pretty mush as handy a piece of kit as any of the dedicated hand held units which cost a lot more. Yes there are probably limitations but I haven't found any yet so they probably are not features the average Joe is going to miss.
Anyone find any obvious omissions, assuming a few of you use this app? I don't think we can list the DPF regen as an omission since it is being worked on currently and will hopefully make it into the app sooner rather than later.

What dongle did you use?

I used this dongle: Vgate ICAR2 OBDII OBD2 ELM327 Smart Auto Diagnostic Scan Tool Bluetooth WiFi | eBay

I mean it reads diagnostic codes...but my production date is 3/2007 (not compatible for coding via WiFi dongle)

At first I bought the bluetooth adapter on the left for use with my iPhone and my X5 35d. It did not work. I asked why it did not work and was told to by the WiFi adapter on the right and it did work as advertised. Recently I had a check engine light and the BMWhat application correctly said that the trouble was the DEF active tank level sensor was bad. Since I have an extended warranty and took it to the dealer and they changer the active DEF tank.

Where can I find a complete list of codes

I tried BMWhat's free app on my iPhone and can read a long list of codes that I can toggle off or on, but I am not certain what each codes does. This app is quite impressive.

Before I buy the full version, and rather than stumble my way thru the hundreds of choices, where can I find a complete list of the various codes so that I am better prepared?

TIA.

Coded everything I thought was cool last night... folding mirrors via fob, closing/opening windows via fob. fogs with highs, 5 blinks, digital speedo, and probably something else... it was late last night. :-)

However I probably ordered the wrong dongle. This is the one - Amazon.com: iKKEGOL WiFi OBD-II ODB2 Car Diagnostics Tool for Apple iPad iPhone iPod Touch PC IOS Andorid Phone (Black): Electronics

It is WiFi and seems to hold a connection very well, but cannot access one module to code, as shown below. Also, even though it says it can code the wiper module, it can't...it says the communication is too complicated or something like that. All others work flawlessly.

Also it can't read the parameters on the BMW. Says buy their dongle...Makes me wonder if they are just saying that so you buy theirs like VagCom does. :-)

It does work great with my 2008 Dodge RAM 3500 truck though. Using a cheap $(Free until you go "premium") app I can read all kinds of parameters and check/clear codes.

Going to see about returning it and getting one you all have had success with.

So what is everyone doing with BMWhat? This is what I have done so far:
  1. Digital Speedo
  2. Close/open windows/sunroof with fob
  3. Fold in/out mirros from fob
  4. Euro double-flash flashers
  5. Fogs + High beams
I have not seen how to code closing rear hatch with the fob... did I miss it?

There are a ton of lighting options as well....Halos, highs, etc. but not sure which are advantageous. What are you doing?

I used NCS Expert, to do it, I taught I saw it in the bmwhat app.
