On Amazon, I have found a lead that connects to my iPod Classic via the large socket on the bottom edge of the iPod and has a jack plug that connects to the AUX socket and another that connects to a 12v socket to keep the iPod charged. They say (in the ad) that the sound quality when connected via the large connector is better than when connected from the headphone socket. For £5.99 and free postage, it has to be worth a try...... I have just ordered it, so will update on the results when I get it.

One note for you iTunes users. If you download songs from Apple, and don't pay for the extra bitrate, if you play them in your car they will sound like crap. If your original source of music is a CD, then you can select the bitrate you want when you upload the songs into iTunes. Use at least 320kbs if you want the option of playing through the car or a home stereo. "Lossless" format is even better.

Keep in mind that the default iTunes bitrate was designed fit a lot of songs in the original iPods, that had tiny storage capacity compared to current phones. My current phone is 256gb which can hold plenty of music, even at high bitrates. With the crappy Apple earbuds the poor sound quality was hard to tell. Go out and spend $100+ on a pair of headphones, or play through a decent car stereo or home system, you'll be very disappointed.

My car does not have a USB, so I just use the Aux jack. Not as seamless as I'd like, but it still sounds fine. One thing I like, is that if I keep the music app and Waze going at the same time, the phone will automatically interrupt the music for a police spotting; (or an incoming phone call.) This is my default for long trips.

Thank you for that Giaka, most appreciated.

Now I can show what a traditional Cornish Pasty looks like....... but the quality still depends upon the person who built it :-)

Having an IphoneX, it sucks that I can't even play music from my phone. I tried the Lightning to Aux cable and it says accessory is not supported. Don't have USB either. Can USB be retrofitted?

My mother-in-law, who is Ukrainian, has been over here to visit several times now, and on her first visit was taught how to make a pasty. She then decided to have a go herself, the result was one of the best pasties that I have ever tasted...... the difference was that she made her own pastry  Now, when we go over on our annual pilgrimage, we take swede with us, as they don't seem to have any in Ukraine, the rest of the ingredients are readily available, and she always makes pasties at least once during our 3 week stay :D
The wife does a good job too, but she buys her pastry in, and it makes a huge difference.

Back on topic again, this is the lead that I have bought for connecting my iPod via aux and charging without a USB socket in the car. I haven't received it yet, so can't comment on quality, but for the price it had to be worth a go.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charge-List...+Product%C2%AE

I just tested the link to see if it worked and it put up an ad with a thing under saying about carry on to Amazon, click on that and it then shows the lead.

There are several inexpensive BT--->Aux options.
I use https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Bl...IVZ3T1PXtkziQw
in my E36 & E39 that only has aux input. Works well and I can stop/start music without touching phone. Also works well with Waze for driving directions. It plugs into cigarette lighter socket. The FM transmitter is disabled when aux cable is connected.

If you don't want to see adapter and don't mind manipulating phone to start music then this
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-Mini-...UAAOSwOMdZP4dz
will fit in the console. Same functionality as above. It plugs into USB charger in console socket.

You can. I have an iPhoneX, no USB, and mine works. I bought an adapter from the Apple store that plugs into the phone and has two inputs; a mini phono and a lightning. The mini phono goes to the Aux in the center console, and the lightning goes to a cigarette lighter charger also in the center console. Not the cleanest setup, but it works. This will only play music or other sound; all control must be from the phone.
