My 3.0d has a production date of 11/07 and thus far engine has performed faultlessly. I do my own servicing and stick to the vehicle's onboard service reminder for service intervals (I don't do early oil change as some would recommend). Touch wood, my X has been nothing short of a pleasure thus far. I've put 25K on the clock since taking ownership just over 2 years ago which isn't to say it's not used much. We live in a tiny coastal town and my wife drives it daily over short distances. I mention this because there is chatter on the net about carbon buildup etc in diesels when driven in similar environments. Not sure if this helps or confuses matters but that's my experience at least.

That is correct. There are a few write-ups here for the diesel problems, but most common are EGR cracking,EGR vlave sticking,T-stat blocking(running cooler than normal) and SCR,or urea injection, problems. The dealer probably erased all the codes, but my advice is to dive the car for at least 20-30 miles and find a way to read the codes from the engine. That is regardless of the PPI of course.
