If it makes you feel better, X7 is still being considered by BMW board and may happen.

Yeah, I read that too, thanks. I would be going for a pre-owned R anyway, with the latest upgrade. I still have my eyes open for the R55 AMG. People who have those hold onto them!
As far as the X7, I can only hope they do something. I really don't want to jump ship!

Any idea when they anticipate unveiling this new generation X5? And then when they may start flooding into showroom floors?

Anytime between 14 to 18 months. Unveiling happening 4 months before being in showroom floor. Most probably LA auto show debut like the E70. But things can change. Expect incentives to improve in the last MY of X5.

That's perfect timing

Gives me a few months to offload the E53 before the 3rd gen hits the showroom floors and wipes another god knows how many thousand off the resale..

I gotta say I've mixed emotions about this new X5 from what I've seen out of BMW lately...

Sometime competition changes things. The fact that Bentley and Lamborghini are introducing an SUV puts pressure on Rolls Royce. And if there is a RR SUV, then X7 is pretty much given as it will be bigger than X5 and BMW will share share parts/chassis across both SUVs.

The timing will be perfect for my wife to upgrade from her current 05 X5. What kind of incentives can we expect of the last MY X5 when the new gen hits the show room? I negotiated a deal with a Benz dealer on a leftover last gen E350 when the new ones hit the streets and got 16k off msrp(got it for 38k). It didn't even take much haggling, I did everything over the phone. I don't expect that good of a deal on the X5 but do you think we can pick up a lightly optioned 35i premium for well under 50k before TTL?

Heard from a birdie that 2014 X5 may debut at the NY auto show around this time next year and in showrooms shortly thereafter.

My current lease would be over by July 2013. Hopefully by then 2014 models will be either available or coming shortly...
