'Coupe?

Why does BMW call the X6 a coupe?

palbay 06-07-2008 11:34 PM

The "coupe" design of the roofline and the 4 seats and the very high "coupe" like driving dynamics .Traditionalist will tell you a "real" coupe can only have two doors!!!???? :dunno: BMW seems to make up some of the rules as they go...... Thanks! PalBay

Coupé comes from the French word for 'cut', indicating that the vehicle seating is close-coupled. That usually implies two doors, but it always means a smaller rear seat volume. That translates as less rear leg room, and less headroom, the latter resulting in a sportier exterior roof line.

That, and the fact that when you invent a marketing label such as SAC you get to call yourself the market leader for a year or so.

 That is probably where most of BMW's motivation came from to use the word "coupe".
