I got the 50i, twin turbo V8...plus the performance package - an additional 40 hp  Hence the perpetual grin :D I had the 19" non staggered set up on my E70 and liked it. It was a good cross between ride and handling. I've never had 20s, the biggest tire/wheel combo I ever had was a staggered 19" setup on my E53. They were great on curves but the ride suffered on the straight aways. It's a trade off...I'm not sure I want to sacrifice ride for the few times I want the handling to eat up twisties. |
Wow L, this is really amazing... I am reading your review, and I am thinking... "yes, I'd love that too... agree, I'd hate that too".. Your comments regarding obstruction of vision - I am the same ! I even have huge panoramic mirror INSIDE (which btw covers the dimming sensor and my side mirrors dont dim much at night!) and two fish-eye smaller mirrors on the sides. I have virtually no blind spots.
Re 19 vs 20s - I love the looks of 20s, and since my bro got his new 2010 X5 with 214s, I am going on/off every day if I should get them too... But then I have a practical side of me and I dont want to deal with NY/NJ manholes... still undecided. Have fun, glad you like it. |
I bet you didn't know
My picture is next to the word decisive in the dictionary.

Devil: Do it. Angel: Don't do it! Devil: Do it! You know you want to. They'll look hot. Angel: Don't do it, it's not practical, You only want them for the looks, that's shallow. Devil: Shut up you wuss Angel. She's a shallow bitch, remember. Someone make them stop. |

You gotta drive one to decide if you want it or not...
I love their looks, but am concerned about (a) potholes, (b) tire wear (Dunlops suck!) and (c) precision of steering. The (a) is somewhat a problem, (b) is not much of a problem since I can special-order them with the Bridgestones which last much longer, but (c) is a huge problem for me, as I am a human alignment machine.... (that is a separate long story of laughs). So yesterday I had to chance to drive my bro's X5 with 214s, all along on twisty road with some minor road bumps, mini potholes etc. (Bro dont worry I took it easy :)). I can tell you that the steering wasnt the same. It was lighter and less precise, and going over the bumps the car needed constant mini corrections. It just wasnt my cup of tea if you know what I mean. One the major reasons I got a BMW is because I love tight and precise steering and handling and I just dont want to sacrifice any of it. So L, find someone who'd let you drive X6 with summer tires, and let it be another data point to help you with decision. P.S. BMW of Bloomfield NJ quoted me $3850 for 214s with Bridgestone RFTs, TPMS etc. So far they seem to beat everyone else when it comes to prices of accessories and add-ons. |
You'll never guess what I did today
I read the fookin manual :p:
It's amazing, every stupid question I have is answered in that little book. Damn, If I did that 4 years ago, my post count would be cut in half. Carry on . |

I saw a black X6 today on Route 29 headed south and I immediately thought "I met L just last week in the exact same car!"
