In an effort to mitigate the squealing brakes, I re-bed them a couple days ago.

SIX 70-10 mph aggressive speed reductions (nearly ABS level) in a row. *dry road required). Don't come to a stop.

Your brakes will smell - this is good. Your brakes (at least for a couple of days) should stop squealing.

BMW put a very hard pad material on these because they pay for the brake service/parts as part of their 4 year no maintenance deal.

*They may or may not have cold weather tested these exact pads.

I guess the other option would be to put new brakes on the car like Brembos or something else, right? Would that take care of the squeel, or is it something else besides the factory pad and rotors? I would also guess they wouldn't cover those under the maintenance pkg if we did that, correct?

If that was true, then the pads would be quiet in Canada and other regions where four year included maintenance doesn't include brakes or wear items.

I believe that the hard (and thus noisy) pads have more to do with fade resistance and a heavy vehicle in this case.

Must be very frustrating. I would keep going to the dealer until BMW incurs sufficient warranty expense to make a change in the pads or caliper.

It doesn't seem likely that BMW would put different brake pad material on U.S. vs Canadian/other vehicles.

Just speculating here - but MB for example has the same dynamic challenges - probably no brake squeal - and the variable is that they don't offer 'free' brakes for 4 years.

After I re-bed the brakes (very aggressively) I haven't had the really loud version of the squeal.. it's also been a little warmer here - low 20's F.

We'll see how it pans out.

2009 X6 35i 3800 miles....Cold NH weather...and I TOO HAVE THE SQUEAKS. Noticed it when the weather temps dropped. I thought it was unique to my car....hmmm....seems BMW needs to do something about this!

Permatex (blue gasket material in a tube) the back of the pads. Always fixed my squeals on any car.

I had an 08 X6 3.5i with no brake noise at all. Presently, I have an 09 X6 50i and again no brake noise.

2010 X6 50i... 900 miles.....brakes sqeaking at slow speads. I understand it's a cold weather thing.....but my son's 2006 Honda Element brakes are quiet as a church mouse. I've had 3 BMWs (X5, X6 , X6 in the past 4 years)....and all have the Break Sqeak problem... BMW must know it's a design issue....anyone have luck with a claim? Repaired?

Yes, it is a design issue. They were designed to stop the car in the shortest distance, over and over.

Get the Honda and the BMW up to 100 mph, side by side, and hit the brakes at the same time. I promise the BMW will stop shorter, much shorter. Do it 10 times in a row and the Hondas brake pedal will be as soft as a feather pillow and stopping distances will be much longer. You can't get something for nothing, that's why there is so much front brake dust on BMWs also.

Others here have found pads that don't squeal, if that's what you think is more important, go for it.
