X6 - new engines/8-speed AT/options/etc. production has already started ?
 

Somebody in a german forum claimed today that the X6 production changes already went in effect this week and that the production of the "updated" X6 already started. Dealers in Germany are already receiving new and updated pricelists and starting with next week, apparently the new models can be ordered through the official order system.

Does anybody have similar information ? What about the X5 ? Thanks.

Option is for a 6 speed so it doesn't drive like an old man car. You're good. ;)

I'm not 100% sure but I'm a little doubtful that they would have switched over production already ...

You know that 2011 models are coming in another 2 months? You also know why someone did not buy a new X yet. ;)
DCT or 8-speed appears to be the BMW mantra for future with few exceptions.

There is one consolation though: I spoke to a friend who works in 5 series development and he told me that the new 8 speed automatic transmission is actually not better in regards of shifting speed compared to the current 6 speed auto tranny. The only advantages seem to be aprox. up to 11% lower fuel consumption (which may be important to some people) and reducing the noise level at certain speeds due to lower rpm figures. The claim which has been floating through the media that the acceleration will be improved too, seems to be wrong. BMW already published the acceleration figures for the X6 50i with 8-speed automatic transmission and the 0-100 kph acceleration is identical to the X6 50i with 6-speed automatic.

More interesting are actually the new options and of course the more powerful engines. Considering that in Germany, the difference between the "old" 35d and the new 40d engine is only 800 EUR, it is a bargain. This also includes the new 8-speed auto tranny.

Even if I knew about the changes, I still would have ordered the 2010. I am so impressed with the X6. the shifting is so smooth, no lags. She just goes and goes. The plan was to get the new 6er with xdrive after this lease is up. I'm already re-thinking that. I got a chance to open her up a bit on the NJ Turnpike the other day :wow:

I have to say the six speed in my 535 is just about perfect and 0-60 in 5.8 seconds is fast enough for me.

Just got this in: the X5 LCI production hasn't started yet, it will start in April 2010. Right now, the factory is just producing a couple of pre-production test cars.
Btw: my X5 M is going to be produced next week and it is NOT going to be a LCI model. Not that I miss something... ;)
