LOL I was actually thinking the same thing myself! Gerry has a power supply for my desktop that he said he can install for me and I was chatting with him about having a mini-meet at the same time!

I could do something on the following dates:

June 28th-29th (this coming weekend)
July 26th (Saturday only)
August 16th-17th
September 6th-7th (my birthday is the 8th, so someone has to jump out of my cake!)

Obviously the farthest south location of the Tri-State area would work best for me, but I don't mind driving. :driver:

NJ04e53 06-23-2008 09:18 PM

we can go for a BBQ at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. It overlooks the NYC skyline and statue of liberty..very big place to chill.

Can't make these, but would jump out of the cake in spirit ;)

AzNMpower32 06-23-2008 10:29 PM

The further south, the better. Like VA perhaps.

Major04 06-23-2008 11:53 PM

I am game! Since, I have been "volunteered" to work on M's computer.

I get her the powersupply (cost me an arm and a leg - actually a case of beer) and now she wants me to install it for her. I don't know when that decision happened:boxer: :dunno: :taz:

Woah woah woah...someone volunteered themselves! I didn't even know that you knew my desktop needed a new powersupply! Just box it up and ship it to me, and I'll Paypal you for it.

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 09:20 AM

I'm in but I can only do the August dates. Where are we going to do it? A restaurant, the beach, a park...:dunno:

Do you need permits to do Liberty State Park?

So Justin, I guess you're planning this one :)

Yeah, August 16th-17th works the best for me, too.

Where's Simone? Dave Matthews Band is in Texas that weekend...she better not be going!

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 09:32 AM

What about Point Pleasant, NJ - The TIKI BAR? It's going to be hot in August. We could hang at the beach. We won't have a parking lot all to ourselves in the summer though.

jst2878 06-24-2008 09:43 AM

keep the ideas a coming. Aug sounds good and so does the tiki bar. any places to crash around jersey?

This place -- www.tikibar.com ?

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 09:51 AM

That would be the one. It's on the boardwalk and behind the restaurant is a bar on a pier that looks over the beach. They have live entertainment in the summer. The hotels sometimes pull this BS about 2 night minimums for summer weekends.

If this is the place I suggest anyone wanting to stay over check hotels first. It could get a little pricey. Not sure what's going on down there this year. I know the roads going down the shore have been pretty empty on the weekends. Peeps might not be going down with the high price of fuel.

Just glancing at www.hotels.com for Saturday, August 16th, it shows three hotels within 10 miles of Point Pleasant Beach:

Ramada Inn - $190
Neptune Days Inn - $169
Empress Hotel - $266

YIKES!

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 10:45 AM

Back to the drawing board. Let's see what kind of suggestions Justin comes up with.

R8DX5 06-24-2008 11:24 AM

August would work best for me too.

NJ04e53 06-24-2008 02:13 PM

sounds like majority prefer august which is perfect for me too since i'll be down florida this july. Pt. Pleasant sounds good, unless you all wanna do some gambling and head down to AC.

Ohhhhh....Atlantic City! I've never been! :excited:

Meiac09 06-24-2008 02:20 PM

Earlier august will work for me. That way, I won't be the red-headed stepchild, and won't have a 3 series full of stuff and a backseat driver :(

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 02:32 PM

I'm not an AC fan but that would work. There must be someplace on the boardwalk where could have lunch and carry on. I've only been there a couple of times so I have absolutey ZERO suggestions on where to go.

rastaFarai 06-24-2008 02:32 PM

the first weekend in August I'm probably going to drive up to Toronto Canada.. But I won't mind Atlantic City!!!! Aug works for me as well..

The only August weekend that works for both L and I is August 16th-17th. So no first, second, fourth, or fifth weekend! :nanana:

cmyX6go 06-24-2008 02:43 PM

CFO or CEO? In either case, bring her. You should have skipped graduation :)

RastaGurl 06-24-2008 02:45 PM

August sounds good, but it all depends on when I'm on call. Probably in Toronto the first weekend of August, too. Going to Caribana, RastaFarai? :)

NJ04e53 06-24-2008 02:45 PM

there are plenty of places to eat/drink/shop at the boardwalk.. http://www.atlanticcitysbest.com/index.htm and also the pier at caesars. http://www.thepiershopsatcaesars.com/index.html Phillips Seafood is great, and they have big enough of space accomodate a large group. We can all park on the roof parking lot for $5.

CFO. The bill payer. The landlord. The one who "gave life, and can take it too" Won't go for it, I'm driving to SC on the 18th!! Too much gas. I would have skipped, but we got a 4 hour cruise in Boston as a reward for sitting in the gym for 4 hours while it was 93º. I know the crabshell was a hoot, but theres something about a yacht that I just can't resist :stickpoke
PS. Happy early 9K :band:

yes camping would be nice. the great outdoors along with out x's is perfect.

Meiac09 06-24-2008 08:08 PM

I could pull that one off, too... Are there any state parks? Or L's backyard ;) :stickpoke

jst2878 06-24-2008 08:28 PM

Camping out on the beach would be awesome but the X's will be in the parking lot.

wheres a good place to camp? I've worked at a campground near the beach and I have one long word to describe it. :cussing: :thumbdown

State Park. Generally cheaper, not as uptight with rules, not as much cement, more tolerance for certain things... (Patron friendlier ;))
I honestly don't know, I dealt with the canadians making reservations, and if they weren't a family or "couple" we couldn't let them in, and no "couples" under 25. Its BS, but its how beach camping goes, hence the reccomendation for someone's yard (lol) or a State Park.

Isn't it a bit too hot and humid to be camping in August? :dunno:

Major04 06-25-2008 12:06 PM

For you ladies maybe some gents...If we go to this camping trip. Y'all could probably "borrow" my portable generator to plug in your hair dryers...

M said that she will jump if you jump or something like that! I can't remember the conversation, must be this klondike ice cream candy bar that I am eating. Having a brain freeze! Yummmm! Ice cream and patron...that would be a great combo!

HAHA! He was looking at the Dreams Cancun website and saw they had some sort of bungee. He said the three of us should go. I said that I would if you did, but I bet him that you wouldn't. FWIW, from what I remember, it's one of those trampoline/bungee things...not real bungee jumping.

Yeah right!!!! Not high maintenance my brown $$ (okay slightly white $$$)

Let's find a place to go bungee jumping! I can't find any to jump here in the NE but, lots in Western states! Lots of whitewater rafting here in the NE.

Michelle 06-25-2008 12:18 PM

This reminds me of one of my favorite reality TV quotes of all time:

God no, its peak season... Lakes would probably better in case it was hot...The only one I know of in the tri-state is candlewood, (hence the entire tri-state populus being up here starting this weekend) so someone fill in with another one... I might be able to squeak down if its not too far. I can't do a round trip to southern Jersey just to leave two days later for SC. And leaving "early" isn't an option :(

Michelle 06-25-2008 12:20 PM

My vote is still for an Atlantic City trip.

3) Left ankle

I second the vote for AC !!! (plus I never argue with L) I can also teach any noobs on how to play craps, pai-gow, roulette, and the various poker games. My wife can teach you the nickel slots.

Edco & Patty

PS. we MIGHT get a nice group rate if we call this a " BMW car club" when we check availability and price and can guarantee a number of rooms. I've seen it done before when I was a Miata-man.

I guess camping next summer and AC this August. Need suggestions on where to go in AC. I just found out yesterday that I have a bachelor party in AC on Aug 23...WOW! I've never been there and now I have it booked for two weekends in a row. I'm definitely camping in the parkinglot for the x5 meet to save a few bucks. Man I love getting drunk and not minding where I sleep. AC IT IS!

I need suggestions on a nice restaurant on the boardwalk or something. not too pricey.

jst2878 07-02-2008 11:33 AM

The Inlet is one restaurant bar on the bay. just a suggestion

jst2878 07-02-2008 11:34 AM

Heres a link to a few waterfront dining spots.

cmyX6go 07-02-2008 11:46 AM

Where are we staying?

NJ04e53 07-02-2008 12:37 PM

check this out for ideas where to stay.- http://www.achotelexperts.com/

I'm probably gonna stay at any Harrah's property depending on the rate they offer.

jst2878 07-02-2008 05:52 PM

hotels are up to everyone to choose anywhere they desire. Lets lock up a restaurant/location and go from there.

Major04 07-04-2008 11:50 AM

Ladies/Gents: I have to be 50/50 on this one just like Playerpro. I may be out of the country for work.

cmyX6go 07-08-2008 09:36 AM

I asked a few friends of mine for suggestions on where to stay/what to do.
One recommended Caeser's. It's on the boardwalk and there's a "Sandbar" right out side on the beach where we can hang and carry on. Anyone ever go there? I'm not an AC person so I don't know. Just trying to help.

Meiac09 07-09-2008 12:04 AM

I thought I mentioned I was out. Will be going through a week later, can't do the extra round trip :damn:

Caeser's sounds like a great idea. Let it be known that this will be the spot we go to. Thanks Laura!

Has anyone been there? I didn't even check availability or rates.

EDIT: I just checked rates for Caeser's. Are they kidding  $500+ fookin dollars for a room for a night. Balley's, Showboat and a few others are showing $300+ to $500 also. I'll check Orbit or something.

Where's Michelle - she knows how to get cheap rooms

Michelle 07-10-2008 03:27 PM

Ok...I just checked the rates for Caesar's -- $529 is the cheapest. Sorry, guys, but I'd rather have a set of running boards!

LOL Where's that $69/night thing that edco posted?

cmyX6go 07-10-2008 03:31 PM

I just checked Orbitz and they're showing the same $529 per night. :wtf: I thought AC was cheap rooms to get you to spend on the tables....So much for that idea.

How much were the rooms in Point Pleasant you found Michelle? Maybe we'll go back to the beach?

The cheapest hotel within 10 miles of Point Pleasant is $169/night (before all of the taxes) at a Days Inn. :thumbdown

Fold down the seats of the X5, throw down a couple of blankets, and you've got a free queen bed! :D

cmyX6go 07-10-2008 03:45 PM

So back to the drawing board. :dunno: Maybe we need to pass on a cool venue because of the time of year and just pick a restaurant where we can hang that has a hotel close by. There are a bunch of fun places in New Brunswick NJ or even a chain on route 1 in central NJ - Woodbridge area. I don't know where else to go that's reasonable for a room. And I KNOW none of us will be driving....

What about down by you Michelle? I'll do a MD run. We could always do the crab shell again. We'll sweat our butts off in August though. It's a thought.

Major04 07-10-2008 04:51 PM

How about M's yard? She may have a corner away where we could pitch a tent...away from her cows...

Michelle 07-10-2008 05:10 PM

I agree -- it's too hot in August for Crab Shell.

There has to be some place in Joisey. Where's edco? He's the king of finding deals.

E61Silver 07-11-2008 09:19 AM

It would be great if you did it in the fall.

AzNMpower32 07-11-2008 07:50 PM

How about somewhere further south. Like Virginia. :D

cmyX6go 07-12-2008 04:43 PM

Come on peeps

August 16 is going to come and go..and we'll still be trying to come up with a plan.

Here's plan B...or is it C? :dunno:

We meet in New Brunswick NJ. There's a Hyatt within walking distance of a bunch of restaurants and clubs. $149 for the night. I didn't check expedia or orbitz to see what they have.

Old Bay is a Cajun kind of restaurant with entertainment. There are plenty others. We can meet late afternoon at the hotel, have a drink or two and go for dinner and take it from there.

I'm bad at restaurants though, seeing as how I usually eat at home. :dunno: Plus, I would not want to embarass myself or force anyone to drive to a meet only to caught up in Northern VA's terrible roads and traffic. There would also probably be a thread up the next day, with 17 members of X5World members receiving speeding tickets from police.

Richmond is a dandy place though.

o oh...

"
Centrally located in New Brunswick, NJ (Home of Rutgers University & Johnson & Johnson) the restaurant can be easily reached from most major roads. Parking is suggested at the Church Street parking deck. Well lit hourly parking is also available at the Hyatt Hotel parking deck located directly across the street from The Old Bay. Street parking is also available in designated legal spots. Please do not park illegally, the town is very aggressive in its ticketing and towing policies. For more information please call 732-246-3111."

Yes on all counts. Meet and greet/drinks at 4 at the Hyatt. Dinner reservations are at 7. We have plenty of time for checking out each others rides. I haven't figured out the picture part yet. We're going to have to play that by ear. There really isn't one large area where we can do the cascade picture. If I remember correctly, there is a circular kind of entry to the hotel.

I suggest you all park at the hotel. Parking is not ample. There are parking garages and a municipal lot but it could be a hike.

MINIz guy 08-05-2008 09:52 AM

Hrm...there is a chance I can make this at 4 o'clock. No need to make reservations for me for dinner, but I may show up checking out the trucks.

Sorry Ger - only a few weekends of summer left. I'm spending them doing summer stuff. Cows don't fit into the plan

Obviously you're from a different generation.
College/university are no longer a place to socialize or :drunk:
They create such a stressful atmosphere in order for students to compete and beat each other down to death!:(

Precisely why I'm not going to school in new England. L- yeah I'm off to college, but the nerves of a new situation and idea of doing work make me want summer to last a bit longer, you know what I mean?

Depends largely on the school. Never felt pressured to work my arse off at UVa. If anything, being resolutely "no frat" was more pressure than anything else.

Are you calling me old in a politically correct kind of way  Life is stressful and guess what...you need to compete to get what you want in life.

New is good, suck it up, get out there and take all the world has to offer you. Everyone gets nervous faced with a new situation. You're 18 years old, opportunities await you. Go for it. Knock 'em dead :)
