Why is California such a big state? NorCal would be good but realistically, I doubt many Canadians or folks from Seattle would make the 12-15 hour to SF. I would definitely consider coming up to the Bay Area but of course would prefer SoCal.
The main thing in my opinion is that the type of meet be decided before people consider driving hours and hours. If someone is willing to take on the responsibility of putting together a big meet like East Meet, WestFest, or the meet Juan organized that would be something that could be done right and draw people from greater distances. In other words, I don't think that people would drive 5 hours to just have lunch and leave. A whole day's worth of events, or even a weekend, would be best. Speaking from experience, having a dealer sponsor the event is best. At our WestFest meets we have been lucky enough to have Crevier BMW sponsor us and provide food and lots of great prizes. I had a Meguiar's rep come out and put on a car care clinic too. Juan's meet had support from BMW of Macon and our very own member Rob.
I'm not trying to crap on anyone who wants to have an informal meet. Go for it! In fact, for you SoCal guys and gals, I'm down for an informal lunch meet in Palm Springs, Ontario, Riverside, or Pasadena. Holler!
As for a big meet, I am considering putting on another WestFest. I have to put some feelers out to see if I can get the same venue I did last time. No promises but I'll see what I can do. :tsk:
