Any creative ideas to beat the summer heat?

I am sick and tired of this summer heat. Over 100 degrees during the day, and above 80 degrees night time. Yes my home and office is equipped with air-conditioning. At least it is not humid as the East Coast. But I cannot stand the heat. I do use the conventional wisdoms such as drinking lots of water, and religiously working out early in the morning. I work here so I cannot move to the beach.

I set the thermostat at 78 degree nighttime it works well for everyone else but me.
I don't sleep well night time and I don't function during the day time.
Any suggestions?

You sleep better at night if you set the temp lower at night, IMO. Here we have to in order to keep the interior humidity down. The other thing is that your office may just be recycling old air, so the quality is poor.

I don't do well in the heat either. It is 30C here, not high for So Cal but unusual for Vancouver. My work thermostat has been lowered (I had to pry the tamper-proof cover off, but it was worth it). Home thermostat is on 76 day and night. Suggest you buy the other family members a down quilt, it worked for me.

I think you have to train your body so that you get used to the heat. I just went to the beach to catch up on some tanning yesterday, it was hot but now I can pretty much deal with the heat better. It takes time getting used to.

If you think SoCal heat sucks, what more for our Arizona and Nevada neighbors. I would probably cook my meals on my forehead if i did live there and save on gas/electricity.

Try taking the subway in NYC in July/August.... you've all got it good in comparison...

I don't think it is matter of getting used to it. I've been that way since I was a kid. That motivated me not to be a contruction worker, despite the fact that lots of unionized construction guys has great benifit. A friend of mine who is a doctor in Oriental Medicine told me to stay away from chicken, from eating it to be exact. His theory was it tend to generate more heat. Well it seems to help.

I feel for brothers and sisters suffering in Arizona and Nevada. I was recently there. I am currently locking myself in home office and set the thermostat at70 degree. I won't be out of there until the firework starts tomorrow night.

I wish my family members are comlient enough to pull out down comforter. My dad in visiting me longer than I hope for he complains that my house is like a meat locker. Thank you all for advice.
