Any creative ideas to beat the summer heat?

I am sick and tired of this summer heat. Over 100 degrees during the day, and above 80 degrees night time. Yes my home and office is equipped with air-conditioning. At least it is not humid as the East Coast. But I cannot stand the heat. I do use the conventional wisdoms such as drinking lots of water, and religiously working out early in the morning. I work here so I cannot move to the beach.

I set the thermostat at 78 degree nighttime it works well for everyone else but me.
I don't sleep well night time and I don't function during the day time.
Any suggestions?
