BMW Extended Warranty : Is it worth it ?

Hi All,
Have a 2001 3.0i with 58k mi and thinking of extending my warranty which expires within the month.

Just wondering about what common problems are likely to happen within the next 50k miles, so considering mine has 58k...what issues are common from 50k-100k. Also, are the common problems all covered under the warranty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely! Our X5 is at the shop, and after today's work, it will have well paid for itself.

I agree that it is a good idea but I don't think you can buy the BMW Original Owner Protection Plan warranty because it must be purchased before 50K miles when the original warranty period expires. You can probably purchase an aftermarket warranty though.

Well, today's work will not single handedly cost as much as the warranty, but it will contribute. Just dropped it off...so two seperate sounds coming from the engine bay, tech says possibly belt tensioner, possibly faulty purge valve, something in suspension will get replaced due vibration problems, door lock actuator, igntion coil.

Agree with PNG...you'll have to get an aftermarket warranty. We got ours before 50k through Warrnaty Direct and claims have been smooth so far. It might be little more expensive for you since you're out of warranty.

I have a Certified Pre-Owned warranty on it right now so it is still under warranty, however it will expire in 2 weeks. How much was warranty direct? And does warranty cover everything the same as BMW warranty?

I suggest you check out their site http://warrantydirect.com/ for prices, I think they might have changed since we got our warranty more than a year ago. We got the 'luxury care' so they cover everything on the car except what would normally covered by the bmw Maintenance warranty (brakes, fluids, bulbs, shocks, etc) and they don't cover body parts like door panels, bumpers, glass, etc. Everything other than this are covered.

ace93rd,
I agree that unless the Stlr is giving you some special deal, your
'01 with 58K is long gonzo from being in warranty and one cannot
do the BMWMutha official extension, once you are out of orig.
warranty.

You have a couple options: your friendly local Stlr may be humping
a 3rd party extended warranty or, Warranty Direct is a decent
3rd party option: http://www.warrantydirect.com/index.asp.

Also, do some reading on the thread that QwkAg posted.
GL,mD

PS: some do, some don't...I would not drive this beast without
some kind of warr. protection.

as linked above
