Did you/he check the fuel pump?

I don't know if he checked the fuel pump or not, he just kept saying there is a problem with the air intake manifold. It is at the BMW dealership now, I will find out when they get to it.

If your intake manifold is crack or leak your car still started, but runs very rough.

Try the most common failure items first. I haven't had any problems with the intake manifold. If you did then it would more likely be a manifold gasket leak than a cracked manifold. More likely than all of that are the intake pieces before the throttle body.
I'd ask for your old part back since it was not the root cause of your problem and is likely still good. And try some diagnosis yourself, then if you have to go to a different mechanic. If it just won't run at all, the first thing I would try is the MAF disconnect test. It take a few seconds to try it.
