DSP question

Hello all, new member here. I have been reading and reading, basically trying to acquire as much information as possible about my question and I am just confused. I believe I know the answer already but, I just want to be sure before I spend any money on something that is not going to work the way I would like or expect.

I was looking at this HU Amazon.com: Sino 7" Wide Screen Samsung CPU BMW E39 E53 5 Series M5 X5 X5 M DVD GPS Navigation Canbus Steering Control Bluetooth Stream USB Sd Card Comes with OEM Look Rear View Camera !!! Easy Installation. Supports Premium Audio System Including Ha. Supposedly it's nice an easy (Plug and Play) to install. From reading the forums and threads here though, I've come to the conclusion that no aftermarket HU supports DSP. Is my assumption correct? My '05 E53 has the radio / no nav but, DSP. I can't believe there isn't a manufacturer that has remedied this yet. I am sorry for the noob question but, I just wanted to be crystal clear.

there are manufacturers that support the DSP with extra hardware, but it seems that SINO (CINO? CHINA??) might not be one of them... did you pull your as-built sheet to see for sure that you have DSP? of course, if you have a button, saying DSP, that means that you do have it.. but as-built sheet is nice to have anyways... that link says it supports PRemium Audio - not to say that their claim is true, but who knows...

Term, thanks for the reply. I have been following your posts since I've joined. You are a god in my eyes sir. As far as as-built, I have not. Once I learn where to acquire the spec, I will. I do have DSP though. I can make adjustments via the radio as well as disable it. The amp is also in my trunk. I really want to change the head unit, just don't want to hack my baby up if I don't absolutely have to. Having enough issues with her already. When you say "support DSP with hardware", are you speaking of that cable I am hearing most manufacturers reference? Thanks again for the reply post.

members here had some luck with the Dynavin... have you checked into it? do a search on the forum for some better units - it seems that only review for the Sino gave it a 3 out of 5... believe me, at $500 you should be able to find something relatively decent... that HU is probably plug-n-play for a non-DSP models but the internal embedded software might be flaky... and on top of that, the description talks about a license plate light camera being inclulded - i did not see the camera on the picture of the accessories, and on top of that, those license plate camaeras do NOT fit the E53 license plate light opening... several folks run into that camera issue...

keep on reading - i personally prefer factory nav, even though it is already outdated... it is just integrated better into the car... but, if you are replacing the non-nav system, i can see going with aftermarket HU - make sure that the bezel/shroud fits well and be skeptical of the sellers' claims...

That Sino model is lesse known... check houligan and the dynavin... there are comparasions going on about the two...

also, have you seen this thread? http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-headunit.html

Yeah. That license plate cam had me a little skeptical as well. I've been looking at dynamic and the newer model houligan looks like it could be a possibility. Worse case scenario, I may just retrofit the Oem Nav system. From what I hear, it's not a fun job. Thank you for the link too.

I agree with TX5, the factory system looks the best and IMO although clunky works the best as well. You can retrofit Bluetooth (costly) and Ipod/Sirius for not too much. I have installed several systems in BMW's including the E38/9 and 53 platforms and a OEM system with the right add on's/ new speakers can hang with the best full aftermarket system. My X currently has the CD and Mid, but I will be switching it over to the OEM nav piece as money allows. I have IPOD/Sirius that will switch over when the time comes. I have Audio control pieces that will allow me to drive aftermarket amps/speakers and retain the DSP.

Indeed, OEM does look the best. I have been looking at the DICE mediabridge as well. I may just get that for the time being. Eventually, I'll move up to either an OEM retrofit or Dynavin. Right now my X5 is experiencing some problems that may result in having to go in for warranty coverage work. Kind of bummed out about may not being able to drive anywhere this 4-Day weekend (in my car at least.) I was looking forward to taking a little road trip through the mountains.

I went up and down this road with my 2005 4.4i. My truck had DSP, there is NO company that sells a plug an play unit that supports DSP. I installed the Dyanvin only to find this out when no audio played. Dynavin was no help. that began the quest, and up until I sold my X5 last week there was no aftermarket solution to this problem. I ended up settling for the MediaBridge which works good, not great.

I upgraded to a 2011 M sport X5 this week so I don't have to look anymore for a solution, but I would say Mediabridge is best option for you. Short of hacking up your car with crossovers and amps, it is the best way to go..

Yeah. The bridge is looking like the way to go. I am putting it on the back burner for now. Too many other projects with the X currently and I am learning NCS. Going to be pretty busy for the next few days.
