I paid 96 CDN with a 15% discount, but CDN prices are almost double the prices of US.

I think the "list" price is ~$70.00

One way to ensure you have the latest mic is to look at the color of the back. If its green it is the latest. I will also say that MANY MANY people have the older mics and find that they work fine. Ive tried a couple versions and the difference in gain isn't all that much. The list price is about 60-70USD and if you buy an OEM retrofit kit you should get one of these - if you don't you are being short changed. Now, you can choose to keep your own mic if its from say 2000 and newer and you will probably be happy (most folks anyway), but the older vehicles really should have the mic replaced.

Do people still say you sound far away and low?

Well the two mics I have 84316938762 is the latest model and is black on the back, the one that I removed is 84318380319 and is green on the back so I would not say that the back being green is definative.

I just received and installed the new "762" mic. All I did to test, was to make a call to my answering machine at home leaving a message with the old mic, and then the new one. I can say that the new mic is clearer and does a better job than my old mic part # 84318380338 at diminishing background noise. It's not light years ahead, but it is indeed clearer. Note to benathon, in neither test did I sound "far away".
