Mic Location

I am enjoying my new bt kit from eis. The follow up from Randy has been excellent. The one item I would like to improve is the microphone volume (I already double checked the it is facing the correct direction). Randy suggested I try swapping the microphone and sunroof button locations. Has anyone tried this? Is it as simple as snapping out the mic and sunroof buttons and snapping them back in the opposite locations?

I don't think they're swappable in the 04+ face lifted models, but I think they are in the older ones...

I'll let you know. I just upgraded my mic to the newer version that improves noise cancellation and when I install it, I plan to swap the position to the sunroof switch. It should be very simple. I'll let you you later tonight.

Tell me about this "newer" mic that improves noise cancellation. I have not heard of it. Do you have the part number?

I posted it here.

Thanks bscarlett let me know how it goes. Has anyone switched the mic and sunroof switch on a pre-04 X5.

If the wiring is anything like my 03 M5 then the harness/wires aren't long enough. AFAIK.

I tried to move the sunroof switch closer to the drivers side but I couldn't get the harness to reach. Maybe I'll try it agaon but I'm pretty sure it's not long enough.

I also had the low mic volume problem when I installed my b/t module in my 01' X5. I got the new mic and moved it to the sunroof switch location.

The switch opening is slightly larger that the mic openinig, so I had to put a shim on the mic to get it to not rattle. The sunroof switch was a tight fit in the mic opening. It helped a little, but I still get people telling me that I sound "far away". I tried to get Advance Autovations to help solve the problem, but as you have probalby read, they are no help at all. If anyone else has any suggestions, I am all ears.

Ok, I just tried it, here's the deal. My X is an 11/01 MY2002 btw. The wires ARE indeed long enough, but that is not the issue here. The issue is that the slot/opening for the mic is ever so lightly smaller than the slot/opening for the sunroof switch. So when I popped the mic into the sunroof switch opening, it was loose, and could easily pop out. I suppose one could glue it in place or something like that, but not me.

Here is one other thing I noticed; via an above mentioned thread it mentioned the following 2 mic part #'s:

Old one: 84318380319
New one: 84316938762

Mine is a 84.31-8 380 338 (Neither one of those listed above) :dunno:

We'll, now we know.
