Brian,
I bought this based on your info telling me it was a bluetooth module and to be sure it did VR. He indicates that it most certainly did. Based on the information they and I have provided can you tell me what else I'm going to need and/or validate that it'll work for my application? Thank you for any help. Joe |
In addition to the main communicatino module, you will also need a microphone, BT antenna, BT antenna cable, eject box, adapter cables for the eject box and ULF/assist module. BMW makes conversion kits for the E38, E39, and E46, so I am pretty sure that they also make a conversion kit for the X5 of your manufacture date. I just do not know the X5 part number. These are the individual parts that I think you need for your car. Plus, for reference sake, I also list the E38 and E39 kit part numbers (the kits have all of the individual parts and then some). Finally, try contacting Jonathan Vanderwarf at BMW N Scottsdale, [email protected]. He knows the BT retrofit kits pretty well.

Thanks for the info, I called my local dealer and they said there was a bluetooth install kit for an 03 x5, which I think the only diff. was the s640a option, which I have, so it should be the same I would think. Yes/no? My car apparently had/has assist and the timeport setup, so I should have a microphone, correct?
Does this option (the tel. prewiring) affect which parts I'll need? Any other input is greatly appreciated. Joe Clark |
See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...03-bmw-x5.html for retrofit details on a 2003 X5.

Yes, I've seen that and I imagine it'll be very helpful, however, I still have a few questions. I have a purple and black connector in the back of my x5 now, tomg says it's for the timeport setup that I have already...and I had/have assist, so I don't need to add a microphone, or do I? Is the s640a option the only thing that makes an 03 diff. from an 02 as far as the bluetooth retrofit goes? Thanks for any addl. help. Joe |
If you already have Assist and/or a BMW phone system such as the CPT8000 (timeport) then you have the microphone and don't need to add it. The purple and black connector should be the connection for the antenna, as I recall.
