Dealers are too expensive, can other mechanics do the same for less?

I suppose anybody can take time to figure
out how to work on any vehicle. However IMO. the Indy you choose should be a factory trained BMW specialist who knows the specs of your vehicle and has access the BMW maintenance software. Specify your location. Perhaps someone can make a suggestion.
