Doesn't leak through the rubber tire wall as quickly as air thereby maintaining proper tire pressure longer (unless you check your pressures regularly anyways). This obviously leads to better tire wear and fuel economy as you have the right pressure in your tires longer. It also reduces wheel corrosion as there is no moisture in the nitrogen...unlike air.

I've never bothered with it, but some of my friends swear by it.

I drive in NYC where is all wheather season. I am debating between the OEM Michelin or the Yokohoma Geolander for my 2002 Sport 3.0. Any suggestions?

costco fills their tires with nitrogen, that is correct.
however, if you have not bought your tires from them, you are SOL! and since costco doesnt sell 20s, then most of us are SOL with the nitrogen fill!

unless of course, one is willing to go to the back of the shop and slip a 10 or 20 for some nitrogen on the spot

Nitrogen will not escape from your tire as easily as regular air. Could be that the molecules are larger than those found in regular air. Anyway, I just got the geolanders at Discount Tire and paid $810 out the door. I'll let you all know what I think.

I have a near new set of Continental Cross Contacts on my 2001 X5. Have about 4k miles on them and I love them. I live and drive in the mountains so tires matter a lot to me. The tires grip much better than the OEM Michelins and have a 65k warranty. Can't say they are noiseier or quiter than stock but noise is not a factor for me. Price is great. My only complaint is that the extra deep tread has a habit of picking up al ot of gravel which ther is a lot of in Wyoming. I particularly love their grip when I am pulling out my 4000lb boat and trailer from a steep wet boat ramp.
I am predicting they will be great once winter sets in up here. Had a set of Geolanders on my wifes Subaru and they were shot at 30k miles and I rotated them on sched so I can't vouch for them at all.

I am a big fan of the Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza (H rated). Not a sporty tire, but very comfortable and competent in accumulations under 2".

Remember you have to "top off" with nitrogen every time, otherwise you are defeating the purpose
