Excellent. Yeah, SMG is a blast no matter what journalists write about it. I always drive it in manual mode S5 (S6 when dry). You will get more used to it over time and as you grow into it you will appreciate it more and more. Have you tried the "flip - lift method" yet? I use it in daily driving as it makes shifting a bit smoother imo.
I read and hear that the DKG technology on the new M3 is a blast and very, very smooth. I guess I'll have to try that pretty soon but there is one tranny that beats them all ... the F1 super fast on the 599 GTB. God that thing is deadly accurate and so smooth even under full throttle. Believe me, the M6 / M5 is fast but when you shift under full power you get the famous neck slap. The 599 under full power is like the Enterprise. It keeps going and going at warp speed and the shifts are AMAZING. I can't wait for my new toy to arrive. Having said this, you won't get tired with the M5 / M6 at all. BMW did an excellent job imo and created driving pleasure in the pure sense of the word. Cheers, M

I still play around with both auto and manual. Yeah, I think I have almost mastered the "flip - lift method". Do you use the m button all the time? I put it on when I need the power. I just started driving in MDM mode which is soooo much fun!
Damn a 599GTB - Congrats! Thats gonna be one fast toy

Well, 1 second after I start the car I immediately put it in P500 mode. I NEVER drive it in P400. What is the point of driving a car with 507 PS in 400 PS mode. I never understood that.
My tranny setting is always S5 manual shifts. I programmed my M button in the I drive at MDM on and S5 and EDC in sport. When it is dry I use the M buttom a lot especially because I like the MDM on setting. It allows the tail to brake out a bit but there is always the safety net. But, be careful: you can loose the car with MDM on (I had it on a private track. There is a limit). DSC off is something I never do on public roads. Only when I take my car to a private airport I do. Plenty of space there and with DCS off you need that. It will bite you in the a$$ before you know it. Have fun with it
