I like the 135!

I took my X5 in for some service yesterday. My dealership usually gives me a loaner, especially if I am able to schedule in advance. So this time, they give me a 135i Convertible. In fact, they told me to just keep it over the weekend and play with it, and then come get my X5 Monday.

This little thing is fun! Plus, the weather here is warm enough this weekend to ride with the top down (55-60), with sunny skies. I might not buy one of these for myself, but I am rediscovering the fun of a small 4-wheeled rocket.

Yeah I was able to keep one for 4 days. Tried like hell to talk the CEO into getting one. She opted for the Cooper S and couldn't be happier......Phil

My teen son will be inheriting my X5, and I will get a new car this summer. However, we are already planning to get him a new car 1-2 years after that, before he leaves for college. He is already thinking strongly about this 1-series, after tooling around in it this weekend. I think it might be a great car for a college kid.

Doc, you/everyone needs a cab re oh/vert one time in their serious adults lives, imo!

I have come to like the top down deal almost as much as riding one of my scoots,
and it's more convenient, "safer", and nearly as much fun, especially as I get older
and feel very mortal.

Not trying to spend your dough, but I suspect you will return that loaner grudgingly!
GL, mD

PS: we nearly got to 70 here in SW FLA/Zone 10 today; "warmest" day in 2 months.

I've had my 6MT 135i for nearly a year after coming from an E60 M5. For me, this was one of the best vehicle transitions I've ever made! I love the car. I have a ton of fun driving it, especially compared to the heaviness of the M5 with the sluggish SMG III. It reminds me of the fun I had with my first two bimmers ('70 and '76 2002). Even the 128i Steptronic that I've had as a loaner was a kick.

I've always said that my E53 4.4i is the best car I've ever owned, but the 135i is seriously challenging that.

In my early 30's, I had a Toyota Celica GT convertible. It was the coolest, and most expensive, car I had ever owned at that point (if you don't count my wife's RX7, that she rarely let me drive!). Got rid of the Celica after we had our son. Now that he is nearly grown, might be time to "play" a little again?

theres nothing like a convertible on a nice day. my mom has a 2000 323ci cab that might need to be upgraded. 135 sounds good to me

He will probably ask for an M1 at that time.

I took one out for a test drive today, along with my friend who is actually buying one. AW 135i M sport with a stick.

Today was a damn good day. Narrowly escaped Western NC prisons again though.

doc,

personally, i would say have him keep the X5 for college..

i cant even stress how awesome it is to have an X5 at school, from being able to come home in all weather, pack all my stuff inside and feel safe on the road.

a 1-series IMO is too small for a college kid, and the X5 is way "Tougher"

well, unless your son is like me and baby's his car like i do, then any car would work for him
