There will be M3 sedan for sure, but no M3 coupe. It will be called M4 coupe instead.
Going forward, coupes will have even name, e.g. M2, M4, M6
Sedan will have odd name, M3, M5, M7, etc.
1M will become M2 coupe
M3 coupe will be M4.....

Thanks, LM. So they're finally going to the 2,4,6 for coupes.

I'm not sure where I read there wouldn't be an M3 sedan this generation. It was probably a year ago or so. I'm considering an M5 or M3 (sedan) but it's hard to justify when I drive about 3k miles a year--in the last few years--and my X5 is still going strong at 29k miles after 8 years.

BTW, the new Forza 4 is excellent so far. Lots and lots of BMWs including the extra "art" cars I got in the Limited Edition.

I hate this idea. The 3 Series and especially M3 have become such a benchmark that they are nearly a brand in themselves. BMW M has already offended loyalists with the switch from high-revving NA engines to forced induction - why do further damage by changing a cherished name? I understand the need for progress, but is there no respect for history & tradition left at BMW anymore?

That said, this new 3 is a pleasant evolution of the E90 in sedan guise. The current E92 is a great looking coupe - hopefully its successor doesn't wear the F30's face.

BMWs have offered cloth seats forever. Not so much in the US anymore but they are still popular in Europe & elsewhere. I liked my cloth seats in my 325e & 325i. Comfortable, high-quality & heated seats aren't required.

I have seen many and owned two. Maybe I'm older than you or have seen more BMWs (the only brand I've ever owned).

Lately most US models have either leather or leatherette.

The current M3 is offered with a combo cloth / leather in the US (it is the default on bmwusa.com).

this is true, after looking at the X and the 3 series it looks like the cloth leather combo isn't an option that is offered often

Agreed, it would be a terrible decision to take the iconic M3 name away from the coupe and I really hope they don't go through with it.
