From what i've gathered so far it would pose a better match for the GTS. The 2009 Cayenne Turbo saw a boost from 450 to 500hp in 2008...the 2009 Turbo S gets a boost to 550hp 553 lb-ft.

Top speed increases by 3 mph to 174, making the Cayenne Turbo S the fastest SUV available, besting the Mercedes ML63 AMG.
Fingers & toes are crossed for something similar from BMW but not holding my breath.

Would be interesting to see how this thing really turns out. I was thinking about looking at the Cayenne GTS. Saw a black and a red one the other day and they do look pretty sweet and sound great.

I am hoping that this upcoming X5 will outperform it fairly easily and be very close to the performance fo the ML63. I know the X6 M is the real competition to the Ml63.... but I want the X5 to be really close since I like the looks of the X5 better.

From Autoweek:

The BMW X5 shares much of its chassis with the X6, so there's no reason why the X6 shouldn't share its 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with the X5. In the X6, this engine is rated at 400 hp.

This prototype was spied undergoing hot-weather testing in the southwest United States. Note how BMW engineers used black mesh on the front bumper to conceal some extra cooling ducts.

We expect the twin-turbo equipped X5 to make its formal debut later this year, likely at either the Paris and Los Angeles auto shows.

Hey that is a great shot of it. That is where it will probably be spending a lot of time is at the PUMP. LOL. Wonder what the fuel mileage will be on this bad boy. My 4.8is is not very good at all when it comes to MPG. But then again, I don't baby it all the time.

LeMans...so will there be a performance IS and an X5 ///M or could this be the X5 ///M? I figure that since inception X5 has always had 3 models. Or perhaps BMW seeks to grow the X5 line by adding a 4th model...

It will be X5 ///M. No 4th model. My earlier post on BMW registering the X5 ///M trademark in May 2008.

It will have a TT V8 engine and the car will be called X5 ///M....will hit the market by end of 2009. Future BMW-M-Models might well be turbocharged, but they will always offer higher rev-limits than normal BMWs. There are no plans for Diesel-cars from BMW M, but he does not say that Diesel-Ms are impossible. BMW M will offer ceramic brakes as option for some models in the near future.

Quoting Ludwig Willisch from the BMW M GmbH for AMS magazine interview: The BMW M GmbH is working effectively on X5 and X6 M projects, but the earliest they will be on the road will be end of 2009. We expect the sales to be similar to that of M5.

Interesting to see if M GmbH can tune something similar to what Porsche did with their V8TT in the Cayenne Turbo or AMG for the ML63...

I guess I just may hold my breath after all.

Well here is to offically wishing that this X5 ///M shows up in my garage for 2010. I am looking forward to it. But BMW is now playing catch up to Porsche and MB so hopefully they put themselves out in front once again compared to the other 2.

I was recently in Miami visiting a friend and went with him to a dealer to pick up some accessories for his Pepper Turbo. We parked next to a brand new 2008 ML63 on the lot...I have to say, side by side the two looked downright bad-ass! Really looking forward to the M GmbH response in regards to performance and looks.
