Anyone adding oil?
6200 miles on the beast and received the add a quart notice. I'm told the X5M uses 5W-30 like the 750, not the 10W-60 of the other M vehicles. K

I have the same # of miles - no oil yet needed.
From the x5/x6/x5M/x6m main manual. I didn't see any /// specific oil viscosity/type info in the supplemental manual. Main manual: BMW North America Supplemental X5M manual: BMW North America

I have not added any yet onmy X5M but had to about every 4000-8000 on my 2007 550i - it depends on how you drive it though. I was pretty hard on the 550.

My check control saying oil at 50% level after ~1,000 miles. Looks like a near-term fill for me. Going to pick up some oil, but wish there was some better guidance on weight. I doubt the service guys will know...bet they try and load me with the 10w60. Wish the supplemental manual had better guidance.

I added a quart about the middle of last month.
Agreed, they make the 'correct oil' a bit of a mystery. (dumb)

When mine showed it needed some I rolled into the dealer and they added oil...I didn't pay for it so I am not sure, but I don't think it is the same as the M5's oil.

I added a quart at about 5000 miles due to the reminder. Service researched and it is the 5-30 weight oil not the 10-60.

I made an appointment to do a "break in" oil change. While on the phone I asked the service advisor if they had all parts/supplies, he confidently said yes sir. Went there at 8 am to get in and out, an hour later they come back and tell me sorry we don't have the filter, it uses a different filter than regular X or 5.0. So make sure they have filter before you go for change, I was pissed!
BTW mine has not gone through any oil in 3k |
