X6 Aluminum Running Board Kit on an M

I'm a huge fan of the Aluminum Running boards that are available for the X5 & X6 Series. In fact, I like them so much, I want to remove the plain "skirts" / running boards on my X6M and put the aluminum ones on.
Does anyone know, not only if this can be done, but if it can be done so that it doesn't leave any irregular gaps or spaces in the lower body kit. I want it to look flush against the factory body kit and not as if someone jury-rigged them on.
Any advice (besides not to do it) would be appreciate.
Thanks!

with any gap you can add on the running boards. I personnaly wouldnt add running boards, what i did to mine is that i put PPF films on to prevent the scratches.

Sorry... "with any 'gap' you can add running boards"? I apologize but I don't understand what you're saying. My apologies if my question was unclear but I wanted to know if the factory X6 Aluminum Running Boards fit correctly where the current X6M body Skirts are.

Also, I figured some people would disagree with the choice to do it based on personal preference but the look appeals to me. To each their own, huh?

Thank you for offering a response.

Best Wishes!

"with any gap" meant to be without gap. n e ways it will fit perfectly. This should answer your question. One time I wanted to install the running boards to my M but I decide not to because BMW sales person told me that it will look like 50i trying to look like M. Now i am use to what it looks like.

This is interesting. I might consider doing this. The X6M is my wife's - she's five foot two, and used to use the running boards on our old 4.6is X5 frequently. The side skirts on the X6 are terrible for being unprotected, too. I wonder why BMW chose not to apply the black rubber protector, a la the X5M/M Sport package?? The upper surface of the side skirts on our X6M is already scuffed up pretty badly.
The clear bra that we had applied only goes up as far as the upper surface, but does not cover it (soon to be rectified, as they have now changed the pre-cut kit, to allow full coverage).

TTBear,
Thanks for your input. I was just told by my sales rep and SouthBay they you cannot install the X5 Accessory Running Boards on the X5M. The didn't tell me why, they just said you couldn't. I'm not sure if I buy this... did they change the lower body THAT MUCH. Isn't the Skirt on the M attached the same way as the skirts and running boards on the regular X6? Does anyone know why?

I think it has to do with the wheel arch moldings on the M package cars. When looking at the the wheel arches I do not think the running boards would be able to be installed without major modification or removal of the wheel arches. just my $.02
