X5 M Transmission Fault

Hi folks,

After last years nightmare of the X5 M engine fault, for which BMW eventually replaced the car, today the new 3 month old X5 M (3k miles) gave me the dreaded 'bing' after pulling slowly off my driveway and coming to a stop, however at this point there was no fault message and the check control said no faults.

Drove 10 miles, thought nothing of it, car drove fine as usual in manual on the paddles. Driving home pulled up outside the house and got the dreaded 'bing' again, this time it said Transmission Fault, and something like drive moderately you might not be able to select park, WTF!!

Went into the check control said no faults??

Anyone seen anything like this??

Me too...The only thing I hear now is the beautiful exhaust note of the CTT...

In all seriousness, as we have discussed in other threads regarding this vehicle/engine/transmission, there has to be a design flaw out there. Too many guys with X5M's on the net writing about it. BMW knows about it, and as much as admitted it to me during my 4 month ordeal with them.

I still love the vehicle though. Was up in Kenwood (suburb of Cincinnati) on Saturday and saw one almost identical to my old one. Still had some nostalgia... However, then I drove home 200 miles without any engine malfunctions/transmission faults.

So, good luck to you man. Hate to see the potential for a new problem start.

Well I ran mine into the dealer last week, no fault codes in it and they could give me no explanation as to why I got the warning.

One week later almost to the minute (quite spooky) got the bling again but no message, exactly the same as the week before but this time there was no second message later on with the transmission fault so its anybodys guess as to what's going on with it, its driving fine though, must be gremlins....

Good luck to you mate. Hope you don't have any problems like before.

Anyhow, if you do. I have a great spec in mind for you on a Cayenne Turbo...

Cheers,
seriously, nobody asked about porsche, I suspect OP knows they exist and surely they have their own problems

BTW, I just drove 1200 miles to Toronto and back, what a pleasure it was too

Don't get your panties in a wad. We were just kidding. I would have been in another X5M had BMW not dropped the ball on a 5 time repeat customer in 6 years. So... Don't act like we are here poaching. Still have great respect for the X5M... You can't deny, however, that the product has issues... Multiple people on this board with buybacks. I am sure the Posche has issues. Just relaying what our experiences have been...
