Drove the X5M in the snow
I see the forecast for snow, so I call my buddy up and tell him to order me the DWS tire. I was going to wait till the end of November. But I guess that went out the window.
So we get the snow and I am without tires. I take the X5M out just to see how bad it is and I was wrong. The truck tore it up yesterday. Never was stuck, never had any issues. I drove through piles of snow, unplowed roads, over small trees that fell and it was fine. Now I almost regret ordering the DWS. Considering how fat the tires are, are the DWS really going to be that much better? I know getting rid of the runflat is going to be great. But as far as snow??? The RFT were perfect. The main drawbacks are the wide tires. and the truck sits too low to be a snow machine. my front nose turned into a snow plow on some roads. and today I realized I lost the driver's side front tow loop cover ![]() But besides that, the truck is perfect. I almost forgot. on friday, I took it off road to get to my stand to hunt. once again the low ground clearance was not that great for that. But this is my winter/hunting truck, so too bad. It will have to do I am very impressed by the all wheel drive in this truck. I was watching the torque distribution and it was pretty cool. Even with the summer Runflats, it did not get stuck in the woods in some very muddy areas. and it never got stuck in snow. By the way, do these tow covers come painted from BMW?? I hate having to get a small round piece of plastic sent to a body shop. and online places to order one? or stealer the only place?
