2013 X1 Interior Space
How does the interior space of the 2013 X1 compare with the previous generation X3? I'm looking to swap out my 2006 X3. I already know the 2013 X3 is larger than my current vehicle. Thanks.

Also, does anyone know if there are A/C vents for the rear seat passengers?

I drove a 2012 model last year, and commented on it in this post:
http://www.xoutpost.com/843519-post8.html Not sure where you are located (Earth? Seriously?) but for the Canadian model I don't recall face level vents in the rear. I think there are underfloor heat/vent ducts to the rear. We have a 2007 X3 now, and my perceptions were that the X1 had less luggage space, similar passenger space, but a more open/airy feeling due to the lower beltline and increased greenhouse space. The actual dimensions may not bear that out, but to my recollection the space was pretty much like our X3. What was different was the driving experience, the X1 was a generation ahead. Too bad there was no manual transmission though. I liked the X1. It seemed more carlike, more of a tall 3 series wagon than our X3 does, if that matters.

Hey thanks for the quick response and your thoughts on the X1. I'm located south of Canada but north of Mexico
![]() My wife's X3 is on it's second evaporator fix (under warranty from the first out of pocket fix). I'm thinking about ditching it before something else goes kaput. It has only 90k miles on it. Aside from that it's been fairly reliable...knock on wood. We're trying to decide between the X1 & the X3. I've only seen the X1 in videos & pictures thus far. There are none at any of the 5 BMW dealers in my area as of yet. We have two kids in car seats and don't usually carry much stuff in the trunk. We take trips in my vehicle anyway so cargo capacity isn't paramount. Also, both of us are under 6' so headroom should be fine. The wife doesn't want a large vehicle as she works in the city and those parking garages barely have enough room to park much less exit the vehicle. If the X1 is pretty close on interior dimensions to our current X3 then we might just wait until they start arriving at the dealers. Have you driven the F25 X3 and if so, how does it compare to the X1? Thanks for your thoughts!

The X1 will likely drive like the E83 X3 but has a little less room. In terms of refinement and comfort, the current X3 scores better in both departments, and has a more updated software/operating system. The X3 isn't that hard to park at all and rides substantially better than the X1, although the latter will have a more "engaging" driving experience which is both good and bad depending on expectations and driving profile.

Fwiw, there are a few posts on the 'other board' that describe the X1's ride as 'choppy', 'rough', 'makes passengers feel sick', etc.
No idea if that is what the US model will feel like...from fading memory, the initial X3s also had that occasional tag of 'too stiff suspension'. That other board also has posters actually ordering the US version X1 without even seeing/sitting in/driving it which is a remarkable leap of faith, imo. When the local dlr(s) get some, take the Boss down and have her drive one/some. The ones I saw in CDA last year look as JCL described: a 'raised' 3 series, which is what it basically is. The rear space was minimal, as in I don't think one set of golf clubs would fit, but your CEO may not care about the fairly small rear storage space. GL, mD

I haven't driven the new X3 yet.
I don't think the X1 (a 2012 model that I drove) was as close to our E83 X3 as it was to a new 3 series. It was more carlike than the E83, so I expect it to hold that advantage over the new X3, due to the lower weight. We sold a perfectly good E53 (mine) and bought the X3 for my wife, as we wanted one SUV in the family, and she didn't like the E53, it was too big. The new X3 is that same size, so she would likely feel the same. When we come to replace our current X3, I would put both the X1 and the new X3 in the 'possible' category. We do like a small SUV. We tow occasionally, so the X1 loses a little there. I would lean towards smaller and more efficient, though, so not sure which way we'll go. If one of them came with the 20d and the other didn't, that could decide it. Same for a manual transmission, but right now they are both missing that. Hadn't really thought about it much, but if we had to buy one today, putting my thoughts together as I write this, it is very likely it would be an X1.

OP, this isn't going to help you at all but, that orange one is the X line, right? I think that is model I would go for if I were geting an X1.

Yep, those pics look like the X-Line. I'm not sure which line we would go with, but it seems that certain options are only available on the Sport & M Sport lines. You start to check the options and they get to $45k pretty quickly.
There's always two BIG car seats in the back of our X3 so there will be no folding down seats for a surf board or bike, more likely a tandem stroller . I'll bet the X1's ride can't be any worse than our X3 with the Sport Package. My kids think it's a roller coaster ride anytime we go over some rough roads. Anyone that manages to squeeze into that middle seat in the back, between the two car seats, comes out shaken (not stirred) or feel that they've been riding in a go-kart.Every time I drive the X3 I'm amazed at how it handles, but I'm also surprised at how "choppy" the ride is. Odd thing is the CEO doesn't seem to mind so I guess I should be happy about that. Guess we'll have to wait till the X1s arrive to really compare. Thanks to everyone for their input...Greatly Appreciated.
