If you follow the instructions here http://www.x3world.com/showarticle-182.html you should be fine. It's a relatively easy installation, and takes about an hour and a half.

I was thinking of doing it in the dash compartment up by the windshield above CD and vents. Anyone done that?

I did it in the ashtray near the cigarette lighter as suggested in the DIY article. I'm sure your chosen location would probably be a lot easier, as the toughest part of the installation is getting the wire to your intended location while navigating all the wiring, etc. behind the dash. The other thing to consider, though, is how to get power to your mp3 player without unsightly wires from a cigarette lighter charger, etc.

can you do that without removing the whole vent tubes? it might not be worth your time to do it. if you remove the vents youll see that there are tubes right behind it (i was trying to get around these to make a pop up lcd).

i would go with the ash tray, i did that on mine and it seems to be really convenient and the it is lit up when you have yoru headlights on

just my .02

It worked great. I installed the AUX jack in the compartment on the dash. It wasn't hard at all. The best part is that everything can fit in there and close up and you can't see anything. Works great, I highly recommend it.

I had mine installed in the glove box. That way I don't always have to have the door to the ashtray open.

I have moved mine from the ashtray to the drinks compartment which is never used. I was fed up of having the ashtray open all the time and now can hide my iPod under the sliding tray except when it's being charged.

I've had to drill a small hole in the 'lobster claw' pen holder but that can be replaced.

Best (only) mod I've done so far!
