Feb 26 BMW CCA LA Chapter Auto-x

Is anybody going? This first event of the year is at Hollywood Park and should be awesome!

I will be there running the X3! For those of you who have never been to an auto-x it is worth going just to watch for a little while.

The only unfortunate part is that there is no separate SAV class, so I will be running with all other stock 6-cylinder BMW's. Too bad I have these awful all season Michelin tires...oh well. It will still be a blast!

Hope to see you there!

I will both take pictures and have an in-car video camera. After the event I will post some video clips!

Is this your first time going with the X3?

I used to run auto-x with my 2000 Eclipse GT.

Good luck.

Yes, it will be my first time with the X3. I have been auto-crossing since I was 18 (so about 20 years now) but never in a SUV. Should be interesting, especially with the stock all-season Michelins! Who needs grip when you have the advantage of being able to see the course better then everybody else?

Auto-x is a relatively low speed driving event with relatively little risk to you and your car. It involves a road course type of track that is created using orange cones. One car at a time runs against the clock. It usually takes place in a large empty parking lot.

This form of motorsport is low cost (relatively speaking) and is a great way to practice car control skills with virtually no risk. I strongly encourage you to attend a BMW CCA event to watch and see what you think. If you are in So Cal you should attend the event to watch. The instructors are always happy to give rides and it is generally a good time!

White05X3, do you know around what time you will be running? Never been to an auto-x before so I might check it out for a few hours. Is there an admission price just to watch?
