Geeeez.... I thought there were about five variants of the X3, but when I looked it up it turned out there are five different engines available and seventeen... yes, seventeen different X3 variants sold in other markets. The U.S. gets one, Canada gets two. What's up with that???

the X3 is available in five different engines: 2.0i, 2.5i and 3.0i for fuel, and 2.0d and 3.0d for diesel. (automatic gear only on 2.5i, 3.0i and 3.0d)
Don't know about the 2.0i, but the equivalent 2.0d (150hp) can easily, safely, and really quickly, go up to 180km/h without noticing, but after that there's still engine but you start feeling less secure. Once I hit the 200km mark, but there was too many cars around. Like B&DCalgary said, unless you live in Germany, it really doesn't matter because most highways are restricted to 120/130Km/h. We do live in Germany, but we are Portuguese, and Düsseldorf to Belgium is half an hour, and belgium border to Portugal are the biggest part, so we won't need high speed at all. For low revs, the engine can easily go down if not accelerated at all (e.g. climbing simple a step from the road to the place people walk), , but it's enough to accelerate from 1.000 rpm to 1.100 rpm to have an engine capable of anything you feel like to do ![]() And from September onwards, the X3 will receive the new E90 2.0d engine, with 163hp. I've never had so much fun with a car )))) I'm sure you'll also have fun with the 2.0i, specially when filling up the tank. (I've done 8l/100km this weekend)

In my 3.0 gas 6-mt and with 2 adults and 2 kids (and 3 weeks worth of luggage) I was easily able to reach 132 mph during my euro delivery. I agree however that after about 120mph it feels less stable.
During my weekly commute I get 19 mpg. On a mellow highway run I can get 23. |

![]() A friend of mine has been reporting 9.5 l/km (25.5 mpg), and I did 8.0 l/km (30.3 mpg) this weeked, both with 2.0d. I surelly hope I'll be able to keep the 8.0 average, with such a high price of oil.

As some of you gys know, I bought my X3 couple of weeks ago. It's a 3.0 w/sport pakg CPO 05. I didn't floor it yet but she exceeding 100mph line without you, even my speed sensitive wife noticed. No palm sweating, even playing w/the radio at the same time. I'm pretty sure there is enough power to reach 130-140mph easily, maybe more. (I'm talking about GPS readings, anybody tried and confirmed w/GPS?...)
I'm a NYC resident and loved the size and nimble characteristics of the car. BTW, Black plastic bumpers are big plus here... |
