I thought about it too. But I'd go the 335i route & then add snow tires...

If you want all the bells & whistles (like I do), then the price difference of 2-3 K for 70 extra horsepower in the 335i is worth it...

Unless you want a wagon, in which case, BMW NA seems to think that a high powered wagon won't sell well here.

The reason that the wagon doesn't sell well here is that you can't get the larger engine.

Just give me a 330xd touring and I will be happy.

It truly depends on your anticipated use. For me, personally, the 328xi would make more sense than an X3. I live in a place with no snow (or so they say...it did snow here the other day...sort of...), mainly use mine for schlepping kids around and almost never go to Cosco. The 3-series is a great choice for my use. And I say that even though I think the X3 is a great car and am extremely impressed with it!

Now, if you are in a place with lots of snow a lot of the time, the X3 might still be a better choice. If you often transport large, bulky items the X3 is a better choice. If you prefer the higher seating position the X3 is a better choice.

Performance wise they are probably about the same. The e90 might get better gas mileage and I suspect the quality of the interior materials is better on the e90. My limited experience with the e90 is that the ride quality is better also.

However, the X3 offers a perception (and maybe even a reality) of more interior space and overall utility. The X3 has been in production longer so most of the bugs have been worked out of it already.

Does that make sense?

the deal for the 328 can be better...your dealer must have tons of them on the lot...

and for the kelly blue book value, usually that's the standard dealerships use to sell you a car, so that should be the standard you use to sell it back

I had an '07 328xi for a loaner recently and was pleasantly impressed. It was a very quick little bugger and it handled great - without sports package. Having said that, I feel the 3ers are just a bit too small for me, but that's not surprising since I've been driving large vehicles for many years now. If you can afford it, I like the suggestion of going with a 335 and snows - I can just imagine how fun that car must be!

17.5 seems pretty low...specifically ask why it is that. Ask to see the "Black Book" price. They used Black Book to price my X5 2003 with 40,000mi. They said Blue Book was off, and Black Book was the best.
For the 328xi, try to get the 41,239 to "a nice even number" like 41,000 or 40,500. They can do it if you have the patience.

Uh, at my place, it's almost always 800-1000 over invoice on a new car, unless it's a hot ticket item. And trust me, the 328xi isnt.
