Is this a good deal on an X3?

My local BMW dealer has a demo '06 X3 3.0i for sale.

TITAN SILV MET
Premium Package
Heated Front Seats
Privacy Glass
Satellite Radio Preparation
Xenon Adaptive Headlights
Auto
8000 miles

MSRP $41,495

Offered at 37,795
First haggle, down to 37,000

I was thinking of trying to get to apprx 36 or 36,500?

Does this sound high or low?

Thanks...

PS: have a new baby, the car seat will not fit comfortably in the Audi with the two of us! (The wife bought it before we were married. ) I had a '00 328Ci at the time.

That sounds high, simply because you could get a new 07 for about that price. No one pays MSRP on an X3........more like $800-1200 over invoice ($35,835 for MY 07) which would be around $37k. There's a substantal diff between 06 and 07 MY that's worth more than $1000. Those options on the 06 aren't even that expensive to begin with. Plus, who knows what happens with people who test drive the demos?

Did you do a check on edmunds.com?

Sounds like a lot for a "used" car. Demo's can be good cause BMW increases the warranty period on the car. I would haggle some more and also see what the status of the warranty is.

i agree with the others - that price is high. it's not far from what i paid for my '06 when i bought it new with 3 miles on the clock. like sfx3 said, check edmunds.com.

I just bought a demo X3 last week. First thing.. is it going to be a certified pre-owened? If they aren't going to certify it then it is very high. If it certified then I would also start hagling with them about extra options that you want.... Alarm System (About $400)... Universal Garage Door Opener (About $800)... Floor Mats... ect. Then I would start talking with them about extended maintance! Since it was a demo car I would ask them to put the extended maintance on it for the $37,000 (a $1495 option). If you can get any of these things added that would sweeten the deal. Edmunds user car value on it will proboly be right about $37k so you are pretty close.
A BMW that is under warrany and all maintance covered for 6-year/100,000 miles.... what more could you ask for.

For a little more you can buy Brand New. Why buy used?

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm thinking 35 to 36,000 now. Or 36,500 to 37 with extended maintenance and garage door opener?

Since the vehicle has not been titled, wouldn't it be covered under the 4/50 warranty? Is it reasonable to expect the dealer to extend the new warranty to make up for the mileage?

This is my first used/demo purchase, thanks for all of the help.

I would assume that you are looking at the one at Taylor BMW. If this is correct then it is Certified so you will have the 6-year/100,000 mile warranty. edmunds.com's TVM on this vehicle is $38,209. So you are already getting a decent deal.... but you can proboly get them down a little bit more. I would ask for $37,000 with garage door opener installed and floor mats, or $36,200 without the above. They may not bargin to much since it is certified and only 8,000 miles, they won't have any problem selling it.

While looking for my used X3, Ive heard a few different things about this. At one dealer they told me that since the car is a demo and henced a "used car" the car had become a certified used hence the full extended warranty to 7yr/100k applied. Another place told me that the car would come with one more month or 5k extra miles on the standard warranty (this car had less than 150 miles and was used for display), another place just flatly denied any other warranty except for the standard warranty on a demo. I think its up to the dealer, hence the varied responses. Therefore, if you do get a demo haggleing about the warranty is definitely in order.

Also, at 35k, I think the car is still too expensive. Even fully loaded, the car doesnt ring up to that much on edmunds.
